VALDOSTA STATE COLLEGE VALDOSTA, GEORGIA 31601 OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT To The Student Body: A college yearbook is unique among institutional publications. Unlike the catalog, student handbook, or campus newspaper, it does not contain academic programs, rules, regulations, or news of the day. Reflecting the general tone and atmosphere of a particular year, a good yearbook is seldom discarded. It is a history of the year. As an historian and also one who occasionally enjoys reliving my own campus days, I cherish yearbooks of my Alma Mater and life while there. I enjoy recalling old friends, or comparing college life then with now. When the yearbook is a true picture of a college year, I like to share it with others. However, weak books are of less interest, because of distorted or incorrect reflections of the way it really was. I am confident that the book this year will reflect a true picture of the life and activities at Valdosta State College and that it will be a credit to the institution. The yearbook for 1971-72 has, from the start, been plagued with financial problems. However, a few determined students have worked diligently and with little money to assure publication of this Pine Cone. We have the members of the staff to thank for this year of recorded campus life. 1 know that the faculty and students will appreciate their efforts. 0 I S.
