HISTORY Student Government Association: Y. W. C. A.: Argonian Literary Society ll, 2, 313 Phi Kappa Athletic Club ll, 2, 3l: Science Club t2, 3l. Nita is one of those few, but extremely fortu- nate people who have learned that nothing is ever quite as bad as it looks at first glance. She takes everything with a smile, and the best thing is that her philosophical outlook is not assumed, but is an inseparable part of her character. Always a good scout, Nita has never been known to be other than good natured, friendly, and likable. l2l: Phi Lambda Athletic Club ll, 2, 3l: Argonian Literary Society ll, Zl: I-lonors ll, 3l: Entre Nous l3, 4lg Vice-President Entre Nous l3lg President Entre Nous l4l: G. S. W. C. Emblem l4lg PINE CONE Staff Who said Carolyn looked like Queen Elizabeth in that wine colored dress with the stand-up col- lar? Never having seen l-ler Majesty, we hesitate to give our opinion, but we will say that Carolyn has a stately air about her which we think es- pecially befitting her status as a senior. That air is calculated to strike terror to the heart of any lowly freshman not fortunate enough to know her for the kind and sympathetic person she is. Never will we forget Carolyn's inspired interpretation of the Statue of Liberty in the play that Entre Nous produced this year, nor will we ever cease to envy her French accent. CT? fl' 'ki ' , , 11, 5 42'ff'.2wm1- 'g na, ' 1 GERALDINE ARRINGTON Ellaville, Georgia A.B. ENGLISH Transfer from G. S. C. 1l, 21: Student Government Association 13, 41: Y. W. C. A. 13, 41: Phi Lambda Athletic Club 13, 41: Argonian Literary Society 131: Vice-President Literary Society 131: Glee Club 131: English Club 13, 41. We first knew Gerry after her transfer two years ago as Frances Arrington's sister, but that was only for the first few days. It didn't take her long to establish herself as a separate individual with a personality quite as likable as her sister's. One thing they hold in common is the talent for dra- matics, but Gerry neglected to try out for Sock and Buskin Club, and so had to confine her acting to the Play Production class. Collecting bunny coats wouldn't be bad as a hobby, either. 'iffy Q J' f5s.1K 4-' 5.2 11,1 A Ly, W S E N I O R S ELEANOR BAILEY Douglas, Georgia A.B. ENGLISH Transfer from S. G. S. C. 1I, 21: Student Govern- ment Association 13, 41: Y. W. C. A. 13, 41: Y. W. C. A. Eleanor is that rarest of rare persons, the pos- sessor of a sympathetic nature who is never bothered with the cares of others because they like her too much to trouble her. Since her ar- rival two years ago she has made such a place for herself that we wonder why we didn't miss her before she came. Just being around her gives one a deep and abiding sense of the rightness of things, and it is fitting that she should have been voted the best all round senior, embodying as she does all those qualities which we should like to see in Miss G. AVRYLEA BURCH Valdosta, Georgia A.B. MUSIC Student Government Association: Phi Kappa Ath- letic Association: Fine Arts Club: Glee Club. Avrylea is the young lady you've seen most frequently in the chemistry laboratory brewing mysterious concoctions over Bunsen burners, and discovering with an air of perfect composure just what happens when nucleoproteins are hydro- lyzed. She has an inquisitive mind which keeps her busy discovering the whys and wherefores of everything she comes in contact with, so it is only occasionally that she can salvage a moment from her pursuit of knowledge and devote it to the arts. The particular branch of the arts for which she has a flair is music, and she plays the piano excellently. Perseverance is her watchword: she can talce any- thing Fate has to otfer without a sign of being disheartened. 'ff 'Y is .. 'x .f C3 S E N T O R S HELEN MOODY CARTER Valdosta, Georgia A.B. BIOLOGY Student Government Association: Valdosta Club: Science Club ll, 2, 3l: Math-Science Club l4l: Phi Kappa Athletic Club. The younger Carter has followed closely in the footsteps of her illustrious sister, being the biolo- gist of the senior class. To see her gazing intently into a microscope, you'd think she was watching a full dress parade at West Point or a scene from the current Gable-Crawford hit, instead of the pri- vate life of an amoeba. Biology seems to be an innate tendency of the Carters. 'X g- lc ..,' ' sf ',. I -rf. 1 ... f ' I l I ' I Page 27
