One cold day during the iirst week of the school, the bookkeeper hung on his door a sign Dont knock, push. The phrase was taken up by the students and served an excellent purpose in formulating permanently the spirit of the College. Someone else coined the phrase to describe the College, The right kind of a college for the right kind of a girl . But of all the phrases that have entered into the life and growth of the institution none perhaps has sunk so deeply, or expressed so happily the relation of the school to the commonwealth and of the commonwealth to the school as one coined many years ago by Chancellor Barrow.- 1ieorgias fairest gift to her daughters . lt is with a distinct sense of pleasure that l learn that the editors of the PINE CoNE have selected this phrase as the keynote of the present annual: for I am sure the annual will be a true evidence of the eldfect of the spirit of this phrase in the life of the College.
