The Presidentls Greeting .f5f'X, The student activities of a college are the best index of its worth as a college. Lord Bryce, I believe it was. who described a great collection of college catalogues as a great library of nc- tion. At best, the catalogue is a bald statement about the col- lege. The faculty and the field agent are prone to be partisan: and the students and alumnae naturally glorify Alma Mater. But the student activities are the students themselves in action: and as the students of a college act so the college is. The Georgia State Womans College has always been proud of its student activities because they show a type of student be- hind them that the college is proud to have had a part in pro- ducing. They show originality, initiative, resourcefulness, per- severance, and that fine quality of mind and heart which keep at an undertaking until it is finished not only with businesslike effectiveness but also with artistic distinction. Such a student activity is the PINE CONE-such have been its characteristics: and as such has the whole college community learned to be very proud of it. We are happy to have it become a voice that speaks to students and alumnae of memories of the life we live, and tells to those not of our community how beauti- ful our life appears to us. To the editorial and administrative staff of Volume Four, I give my most cordial greetings and my best wishes that their volume may even surpass the high excel- lence of former volumes. R. H. POWELL, President. is
