At first, usually, they begin in a more or less tentative way, gradually find themselves-take their stride, so to speak-and go forward with ever-increasing certainty of purpose and with ever-increasing effectiveness of execu- tion. So began, so have advanced, and so carry on, the Klay Day Festival, the Christ- mas Festival, the Student Government Association, the Y. YV. C. A., The Pine Branch, and other characteristic student activities. The last, but by no means least, of these activities to begin its course at The Georgia State VVomans College is the Pine Cone. lndeed, it began its career in a more developed form than did any other student undertaking. Its first issue reflected the greater maturity of the college. It was an excellent product to begin with. The second number of the annual was very properly an improvement on the first. And now appears the third issue. It is con- fidently to be expected that it will show its gain. It is a pleasure to me as President of the college to welcome this issue of the Pine Cone as one more expression of the resourcefulness, the enthusiasm, the courage, and ability to put things over with distinctiveness and finish, which we believe to be a fixed characteristic of the students of the college. -R.
