President's Greeting college life which I have al f ways regarded as of greatest significance. The first is the physical-the campus, buildings, equipment. The second is the intel- lectual and social-administrative officers, instructors, social arrange- ments, courses of study. The third is what we group together as student activities. This last is possibly the most significant. lt is not only indi- cative of what it accomplishes itself: it is equally indicative of what the other two phases are accomplishing. By their fruits ye shall know them. What the students do of their own wish is essentially the fruits of the DR- R' H. POWELL college. Trifling, silly, common- President ll-IHERE are three phases of place, inane, cheap, risque, bright happy, sensible. high-minded-as the student activities, so the college. As an observer of the growth of the college from its beginning, I have been deeply gratified not only by the type of student activities undertaken here, but by the initiative, resourcefulness, energy, good taste, and effectiveness with which they have been put through. The Student Government Association, the Y. W. C. A., the various societies, the Christmas Festival, May Day, Glee Club concerts. class plays, the Pine Branch-all are most creditable undertakings, and all car- ried out with resourcefulness and finish. The Annual is the latest arrival in the family of student activities at the college. We were proud of the first issue last year. It started well. This year we confidently expect it to be better. It is good to have such a picture-such a close-up -of our college life. The college has always been happy to have its reputation made by its student activities: it is my great pleasure as President to welcome this issue of the Pine Cone as a worthy and fitting expression of our college life, R. H. POWELL, President.
