12 Students, Parade Go Hawaiian Any stranger who came to Valdosta on the afternoon of October 18, would have thought he had made a wrong turn and ended up in the islands of Hawaii. Actually he would have been witness to Valdosta High's 1985 Homecoming parade which centered around the theme Wildcats Go Hawaiian. Under the direction of the Stu- dent Council, the parade began at 4:00 p.m. Students from clubs, groups, and all organizations participated. They dressed in grass skirts, flowered clofhing, and wore leis around fheir necks. An occasional bare foot could be seen marching down the pa- rade path to the sounds of tropi- cal music. Competition between the classes to win first prize for their float was evident. After working every night for a week prior to the parade, the junior class took the honor.
