puke Ou (Ole Isle Sle OUR (CL AVSS OP IANS, Our first few weeks in Valdese High School, back in “45”, were dull and unexciting to most of us “poor green freshmen.” However, the day the freshmen boys were so politely placed on the water foun- tain wasn’t so dull, wet if anything. After that we settled down and found that high school wasn’t so bad after all. For the benefit of the freshmen this year, we weren't look- ed down upon by “Dignified Seniors” since an extra grade was added. Our teachers that year were Mr. Stemple, Mr. White, Mr. Sor- rell, Mr. Cotton, Miss Ghigo, Mrs. Braswell, Mrs. Ellison, and Miss Pyatt. In our Sophomore year, Mr. Spainhour and Miss Goins replaced Mr. Stemple and Mrs. Ellison. Mrs. Braswell and Mr Sorrell were re- placed by Miss Hardin and Mr. Clayton the first semester and Miss Cline and Mr. LaFevers the second. This year Mrs. Wilson, who has since been an inspiration and help to all, began her Vocational Guid- ance work. The F.H.A. Club was also organized. And we still found ourselves struggling over that algebra. The beginning of our Junior year brought new activities. We were in charge of the school paper and some were initiated into the Beta Club. However, our main task was spon- soring the Junior-Senior Banquet. We took up two new and different courses, typing and French. Our Home Economics Building was finished at Christmas, giving us more room in the main building. Mr. Honeycutt, Mrs. Rowe, Mrs. Miller and Mr. Barger were our new teachers. And now the great year has ar- rived. It is a busy and exciting one because we are now dignified Seniors and we take our place of leadership over the lower classmen. Our new teachers are: Mrs. Sadye Barger, Miss Jennie McNaull, Mr. Robert Gourley, Mr. Donald John- son, Mrs. Antoinette Moore, and we welcome back our good English teacher Mrs. Myra Braswell. A de- bating club, the Sigma Delta Pi, and a football club have been organized this year. Now we are looking forward to graduation day which will end our happy high school ex- periences. For many this will be the last year of study while others will go on to college, but we hope that we may all prosper from these four years of training. By Epwin Houkx Class Historian
