Gin Eby tory Come and fly back with me on the wings of time to the day when the now dignified and respected seniors were terrified and unimportant fresh- men, taking a glimpse of the bewil- dering and exciting life which was to be theirs for the next four years. The subject found to be most difficult was Algebra. Our principal was Mtr. Stemple and our teachers were: Miss Ghigo, Mrs. Braswell, Mr. Cotton, Mrs. Wagstaff, and Mrs. Ellison. In our sophomore year we were more confident because we had ad- justed ourselves to the way of high school life. We had Miss Pyatt to re- place Mrs. Wagstaff. Mr. Sorrell was our coach. Algebra was as difficult as the year before and Biology was none too easy. The teachers were: Mr. Cot- ton, Algebra; Mrs. Braswell, Eng- lish; Mrs. Ellison, Home Economics; Miss Ghigo, History; and Mr. Stemple, Biology. We were very sorry to hear that Mr. Stemple, Mrs. Bras- well and Mrs. Ellison were leaving. We were going to miss them very much. The junior year was a very excit- ing One since we were sponsoring the Junior-Senior banquet. We had many new teachers. Mr. Spainhour was our principal this year. Miss Goins took over the home economics depart- ment. Miss Hardin taught English for half the year and Mr. LaFevers 217 + the other half. Mr. Clayton was his- tory teacher for part of the year and Miss Cline replaced him the latter part of the year. Mr. Clayton was al- so our coach. The guidance depart- ment, a new and helpful thing to Valdese High, was under the direc- tion of Mrs. Dell B. Wilson. Many students started in their first year French and found this an interesting subject. Miss Pyatt started some stu- dents in their first year typing. So all in all we had a very pleasant year. Finally the year we have been wait- ing for has arrived. We are now dig- nified seniors, the title we have been striving for since the first day we en- tered high school. Some new teachers have joined the faculty and they are: Mr. Rowe, commerce; Mrs. Miller, Science; and Mr. Barger, coach. Honeycutt, principal; Mrs. There are fifty-three members and one post-graduate in the class. We now have the future ahead of us. May it be a bright, happy one, free of wars and misery. We have learned much, and yet each year as we ac- quired more knowledge, there seem- ed to be more and more to learn. May we realize that one never really stops learning, and may each of us have always the desire to learn more. By Jeanette Dippman Class Historian
