I Q - mr-if e if T0 THE SHIP'S COMPANY OF THE U. S. S. VALCOUR QAVP-55, 6 August 1958 The pages of this book should remind us of the many wonderful happenings of the 1958 Middle East Cruise. They should help us to recall the wonders of the far away places with the strange sounding names where the Valoour stopped to call - Araby, Italy, France, and Spain. It is altogether fitting that such a book should be dedicated to those who gave it birth. To the ships company of the Valoour this book belongs. It is a brief picture of their work and play during a great and unique adventure in their lives. It was a privilege and a pleasure to be your Commanding Officer. You responded like thoroughbreds to all the demands and pressures placedupon you. You never failedg you always delivered. You were most worthy of the outstanding which Commander Middle East Force gave you. I shall be proud and happy all the days of my life to have been your Captain. My very best wishes to each of you and may God bless you always. C. H. TURNER Captain, USN

VALCOIIRQ for, throughout your tour you have done an outstanding job - one that I am pleased with and proud of - thoroughly and enthusiastically. Operations in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea and Indian Ocean areas have never been up easy. The area is large, the heat excessive, and the hours long. But, you accepted these challenges and turned their disadvantages into advantages. Your conduct and actions made the people of the Middle East Welcome your visits. You accoml911Shed your assigned tasks with maximum efficiency, and above all else, made the Staff feel f, n a part of your ship. 5 . It has been a privilege to have you as shipmates. Good Luck and smooth sailing. 1 H. M. BRIGGS Rear Admiral, U. S. Navy . 5+ Qghcaetlessvrygzv .. . . .-.- - -, . I ,A I ' . .. ,. , ,.f. - ',.,, ,,.- ,',-', K . Q..
