Commanding Uiiieer CAPTAIN R. J. C. MAULSBY, USN Captain R. J. C. MAULSBY, USN was a graduate from the U. S. Naval Academy in 1932. Prior to World War II he served aboard the ships Lexington, San Francisco, Conyngham, Augusta, Dauntless, Intrepid and Siboney. He was designated a Naval Aviator in March 1936 and served as a pilot in carrier, as a flight instructor. in the United Kingdom. During World War Navy Department and as Executive Officer on the aircraft carrier U. S. S. Shipley Bay. He has served ashore in Cuba, the Panama Canal Zone, and in the United Kingdom. He served after the war as a member of the Military Staff Committee-United-Nations. His last assignments before coming to the VALCOUR were the following: a member of the Chairmans Staff Group, Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, D. C., and on the Staff of Commander in Chief, Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean Naval Forces in London. Executive Uiiieer COMMANDER ROBERT FEDDERN, USN Commander ROBERT FEDDERN, USN entered the Navy as an Aviation Cadet in 1935. Following his desig- nation as a Naval Aviator in early 1937, he was ordered to duty with VP-8 and later to VP-24 at Pearl Harbor, T. H. In late 1939 Commander FEDDERN was an instruc- tor in PBY'S at Pensacola, Florida. At the beginning of World War H he was ordered to VP-91 and served with that squadron in the South Pacific areas until 1943. While with VP-91 he rescued the present Chief of Staff of the U.S.A.F. and his staff who had been floating in rubber life rafts for more than a week. The COMMANDER has had under his command: Oak Harbor Seaplane Base, NAS Shawnee, Oklahoma, VPB Training Squadron, Jacksonville, Florida, Air Gunners Schools, Purcell, Oklahoma and Yellow Water, Florida, Naval Forces Azores, Wake Island, FASRON 102 Norfolk, Virginia and served as Head Air Station Development Branch of BuAir. Commander FEDDERN was first ordered to the VAL- COUR in late 1952 for a short tour of duty as the Execu- tive Officer. Following that he was ordered as the Chief of Staff Officer, Utility Wing Atlantic Fleet, from which he again was ordered to the VALCOUR as Executive Officer. Commander FEDDERN attended the General Line School at Newport, Rhode Island, and was promoted to his present rank in 1945.
