In our efforts to communicate, we've set a new goal in the presentation of this book.- This is a literary work, put together with you in mind — each page is an event. Relative to an experience, we've lived, while trying to achieve perfection Jn our everyday lives. We laugh, we. fcry, we worship, we enjoy. You might recall an old saying, You reap what you sow. That's the way of the world! Cod Bless You. Wally: You have given us faith in ourselves and in our own abilities You have made us glad that we are who we are; and because of you, we will strive to grow — for Life is becoming! We dedicate this book as a reflection of the times we have spent together. During, the past four years, we have grown and matured a great deal Therefore, this work is an example of that maturity. The memories of our times together will echo in our hearts and will always be cherished Anne Mazeika Head Cuidance Counselor If we acknowledge Jdim in off our ways, he ItaA promised Safely to direct our stepSf and in our experience we s halffind the promise fulfilled. —PaySon Wayne Ashby Social Worker uj 3 oe n n Judith Stewart Patricia Fullilove Kos T raw uk £achi (feneration (fathers totjether the imperishable children of the past. and increases them hi new sons of li fht, afihe radiant with tmmor, t a fit if. - Bancroft James Lennon Larry Clough airs o. v genera e coloured prism 'iSrae njamtn Michael Eber (Chairperson Laura Isserman •ee com pc certain (imils just A. canno, e rulintj pnncifi e economic u or, Barbara Zois 'V jo -i -v o n . The equipment and rules have changed, but the enjoyment still remains. Donald Yacus and Michael Mayer, our captains for the 1975 season, led the Vikings to a 4-5 record. A well-remembered game was against Clifford Scott. The Vikings scored and converted for the extra point late in the fourth quarter. This gave the Vikings the lead and the 7-6 victory. The Thanksgiving Day game against West Side was played through heavy rain and mud. But that didn't stop Ron Washington, Roosevelt Williams, and Michael Mayer from scoring and giving us an 18-6 victory. To conclude our season, Donald Yacus and Ron Washington were selected to join the other players chosen for the 1st, team All-City, c H E E R L E A D E R S Splitting Sh,ir n Brower—Captain, Dale Sifontos—Co-Captain. This was the youngest team in the history of Vailsburg soccer. The main problem was the lack of experience and youth, but this didn't keep the players from giving their best. The skills were pro- duced from three Ura- guayan brothers who's backgrounds prepared them to compete in the sport as they did. They are considered star material! The team had some tough losses due to inex- perience. They played their best game against the rival, East Side, in the City Championship Tournament. Unfortu- nately, they lost 1-0. ----IUI UTER Kneeling: C. Boyd, J. Goodwin, M. Hayman. Standing: S. Bandy, K. Widgeon, M. Harris, N. Minnigan, B. Burns, L. Jones, G. Gooden, T. Johnson. The Vikings had in overall record of 13-8 going into the State Championships; finishing 2nd in the Cky League with a record of 7-5. Excitment and disappointment went along with every game, but most of aH it was enjoyable to everyone. Commendations are in order for the entire team effort to defeat Arts High 100-50. Its purpose is to touch the opponent without being touched. The touch in fencing is equivalent to a wound in old time duel. In our competition we use the foil. The foil is the practice weapon, and only touches made directly with the point are counted. The valid target is limited to the trunk of the body, so that foil fencing is not only the most difficult but is the foundation of all other fencing. Tn regular competition a foil bout is won by the fencer first scoring five touches upon his opponent. , I ■ • 'if ’V ilJL-- ' hi - ' i Zi,. — A ':• ■ ■• v ■ ■ i v -t «J llwy v® r v ;f • m ;- v K t‘ 'V -v' -- g u ± -,4v ' J Kneeling: Capt.—R. Wynn NElNii THE FEMALE RUNNER Women who run are different from men who run—in ways other than the obvious. The sexes were not created equal, but in the way athletics is set up, we've gone far beyond the ies set by chromosomes. Women ipTfor the things in running which men take for granted—acceptance, encour- agement, and opportunity. This is the biggest difference between the sexes. This rare woman who does run is a strong- minded, independent one who can field the challenges this sport has to offer. So to decide to be a woman runner, also means to work against the prevailing social current, and to be successful in female sports, you know you don't have to be a man! Kneeling: B Eng. D Patel, M. This year's Tennis Team is mainly made up of five seniors who have had two or more years of experience in the game These seniors make up the 1st., 2nd., and 3rd string singles and 1st string doubles. With the efforts and continuous hard work of some underclass- men who have played on the team before, the team in the past has been able to come from behind to win. Although many think tennis is an individual sport, it is also a team sport In order to win a match, three out of five matches have to be won to score the win. The 1976 team goal this year, is to capture the city title. We wish the '76 team the best of luck in their efforts! vvrut can wi say and BINGO hit it compete in! Winning twelve of their first fifteen games, the Vikings then dropped the last eight games of a disappointing campaign. This year though, with experienced varsity players returning and some talented underclassmen, Coach Fred Engel feels he has the nucleus of a very good team. STAGE CREW Many people wonder why yearbooks have this in them, and that in them, F and not some things which are expected The purpose of this summarization of the yearbook is to let everyone know why things were done the way they were. To begin with everyone usually looks forward to seeing a good book and some tvj e of color in the book besides black and white The mam reason for this book not having any color at all was the lack of money The budget for the yearbook is tremendously low and the budget said that we coulo not afford any color in the yearbook. It seems to me that not many people realize what the yearbook means to the seniors One would think that some form to raise money or to seek to get some money would have been done, and mavbe there would have been some color pages in the yearbook. Well in this cas« nothing was done Another thing which detained the yearbook staff from meeting the last deadline was the absence of some pictures. There was a mix up with another school and in turn they got our pictures plus their own. This mix up held up the staff about five days Finally, when the pictures were returned to us. there were still some missing From there on we had to work with what we had That is the reason some homeroom pictures are missing. I here was also' a lack of space In many parts of the book we had to cram in the pictures and in some cases we had to eliminate some, This and other such problems go back to the absence of money ;v If a few more hundred dollars would have been given towards the yearbook, we could have spjSjid out some things a bit more .. This yearbook started out as a scrapbook for many people There was the energetic staff of October, and the sleepless staff of March Everyone started out willing to work, threw in their ideas, and sacrificed things and time for the book, I can't begin to complain because all this lasted—for a while After realizing what was really needed to put a yearbook together, much of the staff was lost. It dwindled down to about six people Working with this small amount of people made me understand why some people work the way they do. They all put their efforts into each page. They spent endless hours working, and when the night was done everyone left with a smile I must admit there were times when everyone got on each others nerves and almost blew their tops, but this is expected You have to take some good with some bad. There are few words that can be said on my part to the staff. I can begin to say that they tried their best and they gave a damn to make this a beautiful book. I thank them and Wally for helping a dream of mine come true. Freshmen, I knew •V 4' ......Freshmen, I knew......... Now graduating seniors........ starting a new beginning, this was the yearbook staff. A staff oriented towards photography and other visual creative arts for over three years. However strange a frozen moment seems in a photograph, it is an original moment. Like the staff that Had it all , it also had too much. Too much creativity, too much individuality, too much knowledge ... it was too RICH. But it had a product that they all overlooked, that of personal priority. How the staff held is hard to say but a creative visual book of the year has been frozen and recorded No matter how harsh it was to receive, cut, change (above all delete] many pages due to monies, the trying task of producing the 1976 yearbook was completed. I observed the younger staff and can only think, that without the underclassmenwell who knows ... but I thank ALL who participated no matter how small or how important at that time. It all had to fit and it DID with great difficulty. The potential I had within the staff could not have been shown. So someday look for the staff 's potential where there will be more room for them to exercise it. Maybe you'll recognize it. I know that this yearbook, your yearbook, their yearbook was given as much effort as permitted.
