MR. WILLIAM A. MONPRODE, JR. VICE PRINCIPAL Congratulations on receiving the high school diploma. It is an important milestone on the road to being an educated person, but it is not the end of that road. Education is a life long process—in school and out. No one is truly educated until he is able to tell right from wrong, to do the right thing when it ought to be done, and to do it regardless of his own convenience. Some never acquire this ability and so are forever uneducated regardless of what diplomas or degrees they possess. May you continue to grow in self-discipline of thought and action to the gratification of yourself, your family, and your fellowmen. 12

MESSAGE TO SENIORS It is right that Graduation should be called Commencement Day, for it is not the end but the beginning. The four years you spent at Vailsburg should now begin to bear fruit. The many hours spent at study, at play, and at the many school activities will soon prove their value. But above all, the phi- losophy of our Viking motto. Liberty with Loyalty,” will soon come into its own. As adults you will have even more liberties than you had at Vailsburg. Now, you will have to exercise your loyalty” to a greater degree—loyalty to your conscience, to your family, to the Purple and White. You were good for Vailsburg! It is our hope that we have been good for you, too! We wish you well. John T. McSharry
