Text from Pages 1 - 112 of the 1986 volume:

Presenting the 1986 annual “Off the Wall” — a yearbook created by the '85-86 annual staff with the leadership of Karen Palmer, Teresa Sorrells, and Lori Bent. Our “unique” title was first initiated as we returned to school in August of '85 and were greeted with freshly painted classrooms and hallways. Other new splashes” we encountered were a new administration, new faculty members, and a once-again found school spirit, which was greatly welcomed by all. These factors plus many others have contributed to the contents of this annual. We hope that you enjoy this yearbook as much as we've enjoyed creating and assembling the memories bound in our version of “Off the Wall.” By Michelle Fawcett CONTENTS seniors 3-28 hall snaps l°i news 30-31 school life 33 underclassmen 31-3 staff classes H 1-50 dances 52 57 clubs 5 -ioS sports b 8 jr.high 83-87 elementary 8VI5 ads 7-104-i As we compare our baby pictures to our senior photographs, we realize how much we’ve changed and all that we've been through, and we wonder what is in store for us in the next 18 years. We look at our future with both skepticism and aspiration. Certainly the class of '86 will be remembered. Never has the senior class of 1986 been better described as when they were referred to as being “a class act. Connie studying hard before school. John S. imitating Mr Begley as he guards the hallway. John L. loafing at noon hour. Lori and Robin making plans for the big week-end. In Home Ec.. Amy works hard! Jacki at B.B. practice, Where am I? As we, the seniors of 1986, look back upon the past years at VIT we can recall many memories, both good and bad. From the people we’ve met, the places we’ve seen, and the experiences we've shared, we can definitely say that VIT has placed a lasting impression on each one of our lives. If the many academic and athletic achievements of the Class of 86 serve as any indication of future success, then undoubtedly the seniors will have bright and rewarding lives to look forward to. The nior class set out for St. Louis on June at 5:30 that morning. We rented a arter bus so that we could ride in com-rt. The ride was an experience all in its wn. We went straight to Six Flags and ayed there until 8:00 o’clock that night, veryone was ready to leave! From Six lags we went to our motel, Comfort Inn. t wasn’t a bad place. Lot’s of kids went iwimming, some watched, and some ;ook pictures. The next morning we drug ourselves out of bed. We departed the Comfort Inn around 11:00 and stopped and ate lunch on the way home. We arrived at school and to our surprise it was a mess outside. The driver threw our bags in the parking lot which was at the time a lake that was ankle deep and then he departed. GRADUATION “86 On June 6th, at 7:30 p.m., the class of 1986 reached our last stepping stone in our long journey through school. Many years of long hard work had finally payed off. Everyone in the class had received our diplomas. New challenges face our class such as marriage, college, armed services, and jobs. Now is the time when society and reality will weed out the weak and the strong will survive. Looking back on our class many strong and willing students will be proud to tell of their accomplishments in the future. Time can only tell who will be a preditor, and seek their dreams to the fullest, or who will be prey and only want their dreams to come true but are not willing to go forth and put out the effort. The future holds for us what we want and work for so we should never give up. We should always keep that one special dream tucked away with in us because that will make the work easier. Finally, only one more step before the big leap into life; but first things first. The beginning of the 85-86 year had us worried. How were we ever going to raise enough money to pay for Prom?? The solution to our problem came through our successful cheese sales and later, our orange and grapefruit sales campaign. With the money predicament taken care of, we put our heads together to organize Prom. The end result was a very memorable event that represented our efforts. With the combined forces of each class member, the class of 87 managed to have a fun and productive year. Consisting of mostly underclassmen, our team finished almost 500. We were faced in the first round of the regionals by a very tough opponent in Havana and were beaten 4-1. Even though we lost, it did nothing to dampen our spirit or diminish the fact that we had put forth our very best effort to represent VIT. — by Todd Snowden J.V. W 2 D.H. L L L L L 2 D.H. Our season started with four wins, one being against our biggest rival, Rushville. We were disappointed when we then lost three in a row.
