Time Out! Even though the 1984-85 year had many complications, students were fortunate enough to have positive attitudes toward future success in and out of school. Personalities and attitudes were more evident in the classroom and also on the courts. The frustrations endured during the school day and at home were put to positive use in bettering the school and our own lives. The clubs and sponsers purchased new curtains for the stage and the Seniors provided new steps for the upcoming graduations. We, as students learned to stand up for our rights and not to be trampled in the transactions. Spirit was high and somehow the students stuck together and learned that in groups a number of objectives can be accomplished. Before the 1985 class was united as a group, we were split into three different elementaries. Then, when Ipava Grade School closed, it was decided that K-3 would go to Vermont, 4-6 would go to Table Grove, and then on to the high school. During the 1985 class's 4th grade year, the Board of Education decided the time had come to have one elementary school for all three towns. The 1985 class spent their sixth grade school year in the new VIT Grade School. As the Seniors now look back, they see their footprints that have been imprinted throughout each of these schools. So we now close the yearbook on page 104 with the footprints poem hoping that each of the classes following may leave as good of an impression. ELEMENTARY pgs. 55-62 2 THEME pg. 104

Footprints of the 1984-85 VITO RIAN The 1984-85 school year held many strange and frustrating memories for the VIT district. Besides being in a depressed economy, other problems arose when board and teacher negotiations came to a stand still and two new teachers were not hired for the 85-86 year. Students found school life strained and uncomfortable. Friendships were out on the line when the decision to walk out in support of the teachers came into reality on March 22, 1985. The decision whether to walk out, stay in school, or stay home was one of the most difficult choices in our lives. At the Chicago meeting with the board and teachers, movement toward ratifying the contract was made. Tension on both the board and teacher's shoulders was finally starting to lift. Teachers ratified their contract on June 10, with the board ratifying it on June 14. The final outcome of the negotiations is a bright and positive step forward for the 85-86 year.
