SENIORS Our Year The senior class began the year with class officer elections and the results are as follows; Tim Engel — President, Sam Beans — Vice president. Jan Kepple — secretary and Cary Belden — treasurer. The first major concern dealing with the senior class as a whole was the “chili supper” — our BIG MONEY MAKER of which a substantial sum of money was made and put towards our senior trip. A special thanks to Mr. Snowden (American History Teacher) for taking us on our only trip since grade-school. As seniors, mixed feelings fall upon us as our last year of school rushes by a little too quickly, but after graduation what ever we do and where ever we end up the class of “84“ will always remember “THE SENIOR YEAR . 48 The Senior class began it's voyage on an early Friday morning! Along the way we had an appetizing interval at McDonalds — Breakfast. Finally we arrived at our Destination — St. Louis. First we took an Treacherous expedition to the top of the Arch. Next we voyaged to the Mall on our quest for outlandish wears. Then onward to six flags to conquer vicious monsters, such as the screaming eagle. Than at a dreary 4 A. M., we boarded our char-iott with our fearless driver — Ranger Rick. Finally we arrived home to our own humble haven. McDonald's u ® Long Day Roy? Bill Abernathy — Basketball — 3, 4. Baseball — 4. T. Class of 1984 share their last few minutes together before receiving their diploma and departing for new fields of endeavor. 52 Graduation night started with the Seniors restlessly waiting in the Home Ec. room for the big moment. Finally we got to take the long journey down the aisle, between the rows of our parents, friends, and relatives to the stage where we sat an hour and half to receive our diploma. Speeches, awards, and choral presentations were given. Finally the big moment came, receiving our diploma. Some memorable moments of the night were penny's from Heaven, paper airplanes. and Kelly breakdancing down the steps. We are ready for what ever life brings us and are sure we'll succeed at whatever we do. Mr. Starkey presenting Carl Beebe with the Connour award. Jim Engel received several awards tine greeting friends, faculty, and relatives, graduation night, including SAR. Scott Kendrick, and the Batterton Memorial A ward. Graduation meant Seniors spending time with their relatives Peggy Dennis and her brother Johnny in the Graduation line. Doug Goodell giving Salutory address. The basketball team was an odd mixture of talent and personality. We had our ups and downs, good games and bad, but we always seemed to click together at just the right times. We had a few bad moments but the times that will remain in our memories forever are the 2nd victory at the Colechester tournament and the dramatic grasp of 3rd place in county. Even though there were 2 players on the team that seemed in the spotlight the other team members were just as important. We will never forget the season of 83-84. Annual staffs goal this past year was to make an enjoyable quality yearbook white managing to hold the price of the book to a minimum of fourteen dollars. In order to do so we earned money through pure hard work, by working at Jr. High Basketball game concessions. shirt sales, cake raffles, summer lemonade stands, fruit sales, bake sales, and selling ads. Without the hardwork of the editors, Jr. editors, our new representative (Jon Kaufman), our photographer (Gene Lockard). and members of the staff this past years book could not have been completed. But a special thank you from each member is awarded to two very deserving people Mrs. Donna Farr and Mrs. Clarla Kay Thompson, of whose services made the yearbook a pleasure to construct and a success. We sadly regret the school Board's decision on the rehiring of certified staff members for extra-curricular activities and feel that though this maybe the worst decision ever to be made by the board, that no one in this school district could sponsor ''our'' Annual Staff as well as. or with as much dedication as Clara Kay Tompson displayed. Thank you Clara Kay. we love you! The annual staff . ANNUAL STAFF Robin and Wayne STUDENT COUNCIL We, the people . The 1983-1984 Student Council enthusiastically strived to brighten the school's dim atmosphere. They hosted a school wide volleyball tournament in which they claimed first place, with the Science Club teams taking second and third. Another contribution was the homecoming dance. At the end of the school year, the student Council celebrated their outstanding year by treating themselves to a dinner at Jumer's in Peoria. Yes??? This year we sold tom-watt as door to door salesman and had many activities involving other clubs and faculty members including the morning breakfast and evening activities. We had the sweetheart dance with new crowns and it turned out great. The Mother-Daughter Banquet was rather confusing with softball games going on but in the end we was all there for the awards. Smith Miller's Shoe Store Gary And Judy Bloyd The Art Of Living Each Day Each day is a lifetime in miniature ... To awaken each morning is to be born again, to fall asleep at night is to die to the day. In between waking and sleeping are the golden hours of the day. What we cannot do for a lifetime we can do for a daytime. Anyone,” wrote Robert Louis Stevenson, “can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. ” Anyone can hold his temper for a day and guard the words he speaks. Anyone can carry his burden heroically for one day. Anyone can strive to be happy for a day and to spread happiness around. Anyone can radiate love for a day. Anyone can rise above fear for a day and meet each situation with courage. Anyone can be kind and thoughtful and considerate for a day. Anyone can endeavor to learn something new each day and mark some growth. When we fail and fall short, let us forgive ourselves and consider the words of Emerson: ,Finish every day and be done with it. Tomorrow is a new day; you will begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered by your old nonsense. Live a day at a time and remember that tomorrow is another today. Wilferd A. Peterson
