They all race in the INDY 500. 12 As we approach our final year at V.I.T., we refer back to some of the memorable moments we have shared. Remember when: — Riding the school bus was a big thrill and doing homework was fun. — The girls towered over the guys at the school dances. — All the girls had slumber parties, and we got to sleep outdoors in the tent at Tonya’s. — You went out on that first date, or better yet you received that first kiss. — P.E. was everyone’s favorite class. — Danna, Penl, Kim, Tari, and Cyndi could not wait for the weekend to go skating, where they all had crushes on various guys. — We participated in sports to have fun, not to compete against each other. — We were all innocent and would never even think of taking a drink or a drag from a cigarette. High school opened our eyes to numerous situations, some useful for the future, and some that we would all just as soon forget. After graduation we will seek further education, work or perhaps marry and have a family. Whatever we choose to do, we will all have fond memories of V.I.T. that will stay with us forever. 13 Terry L. Reneau Donnie A. Rutledge Tonya K. Shaw H. One who’ll lend as quick as he’ll borrow. One who’s the same today as tomorrow. One who’ll share your joy and sorrow. That’s what I call a friend. One who is always willing to aid you. One whose advice has always paid you. One who’s defended when other flayed you. That’s what I call a friend. One who’s been fine when life seemed rotten. One whose ideals you have not forgotten. One who has given you more than he’s gotten. That’s what 1 call a friend. One, when they’re gone, we’ll miss so sadly. One who we’ll welcome back again gladly. One whose memories we’ll cherish so fondly. That’s my memory of a friend. MEMORIES OF 1. B. Abernathy 2. S. Beans 3. C. Beebe 4. C. Beldon 5. C. Boggs 6. K. Butcher 7. A. Creasy 8. R. Danner 9. T. Being our usual rowdy selves we instigated an evening of sheer fun, after a few days of wood gathering and hay borrowing. THE BONFIRE!!! Everyone enjoyed themselves at the Palmer’s House. Our money-making project this year was fruit sales. We sold Texas navel oranges and grapefruit which brought in a good profit. Thanks to that boost we are looking forward with much excitement, hoping to make Prom a unique affair. As seasoning Juniors we are anticipating what lies In wait our Senior year. After passing our State Exams, we waited impatiently for our permits to arrive. Then the anticipation of receiving our blue slips crept in. It wasn’t long until we had our licenses and were set free to drive on our own. To raise money this year, we sold magazines. It turned out to be fairly profitable, and some of us got to take home some pretty nice gifts. CLASS RINGS!!!!!! One of the most difficult decisions we had to make this year was choosing the right class ring. What size do I need? Which Select-A-Side should I choose? Should I get a green stone or a ... ? Finally our minds were made up, and our order forms were filled out. After a few months Mrs. Daily came to us with news of a definite date, March 8. Although March approached as quite slowly, the day finally arrived and we received our rings. P.S. We have enjoyed our Sophomore year and we are looking forward to a prosperous and commendable Junior year. This years Girl’s Basketball team opened many eyes to the progress of female athletes. When asked, at the beginning of the season, what our goals were for the season, we simply replied, “To Win”. With the help of two WIU students. Dee and Peg, we did just that. Teamwork brought us thirteen straight victories with four of these wins, earning us a first place trophy in the Colchester Tourney, where four of our team members were named to the All-Tourney team. Winning was great, but more importantly girl’s athletics gained respect. As seniors, we will hang up our kelly green uniforms for the future ambitious V.I.T. girl athletes. The last four years have provided us with superior coaching, exciting competition, and terrific teammates, who filled our lives with a great deal of happiness. Starting the season off right, we managed to defeat our first four opponents by wide margins: Virginia — by 10. Astoria — by 17. Rushvllle — by 12, and Lewlstown — by 8. With a record of 5 0, we had finally met our match; Havana. Linda Wendt, one of the areas finest pitchers, wizzed the ball in the strike zone, giving up only a few hits. The coaching staff was composed of experience in Miss Evans and ambition in Assistant Coach Peg Campana. Miss Evans promoted her expertise coaching abilities by rearranging the defensive line-up. and utilizing various offensive stratagies. The chore of keeping Miss Evans in control was turned over to Miss Campana. alias “Lumpy . In addition to developing our softball skills, both coaches succeeded in making the 1983 season, one of much enjoyment. Our rhyming address we shall now recite. We were told to make our speech short and sweet. And not to put everyone to sleep. Looking back to our grade school years. We were first Introduced to our peers. The biggest thrill was riding the big yellow school bus. Keeping up with our studies was a must. Basketball, cheerleading were part of the fun. With the school picnics out In the sun. Slumber parties where we slept out In tents. Usually ended in arguments. Jumping from elementary to Junior High was quite a change. Many new faces seemed extremely strange. The boys discovered girls and girls discovered boys. It was time to put away our childish toys. Going to dances on Friday nights. We were never let out of chaperone's sight. 8th grade graduation occurred on a hot day in June, High school could begin none too soon. Although the first day was a little frightening. We found high school to be quite exciting. We were Introduced to Algebra with its x’s and y's. And all biology creatures with their beady eyes. In Home Economics we worked on crafts. While In Industrial Arts we learned to draft. Either French of History we studied at night. The English courses gave us quite a fright. P.E. classes make our bodies strong. While In music we practiced the school song. Business courses taught us how to save our dimes, While athletics took up our spare time. We survived the drips, the pounding, the smell. Considering the noise we all did quite well. Our leaders were Tom, Jim, and Harry too. Who tried to control this unruly zoo. An important part of our life has flown by. Our future looks bright as we set our goals high. Marriage, work, or further education. And in our plans after graduation. We hope you enjoyed our Valedictorian address. One last thank you to our faculty, family, and guests. Cindy Lascelles Class of “83” [ford] ULMER FORD SALES RR 1 - BOX 7 LEWISTOWN.
