The four years we spent at V.l.T. will always be remembered for the good times we shared. Our freshman year was full of fear-, wondering just what the seniors were planning for us next. It was a fun time, though, tooi mostly parties, dances, and fights now and then. As sophomores, we were a little more sophisticated: we got our class rings, and our licenses. The roads had a lot of black fire marks for a few months. Our junior year was far more exciting. We had our bonfire (our class of 80 holds the record for the most outhouses collected), we had our prom and Carol had a smash-up party. Our basketball team was nul in Conference. But as Seniors we accomplished the most. From Scholastic Showdown (on TV) to matchmaking for Mrs. Knowles, to State Playoffs in football, to the SWAT team of V.l.T., besides all the numerous other plays, musicals, sports, specials, and fun things we don’t have room to mention. But now as we leave V.l.T.. this spring of 1980. to face our own lives, we look back and laugh and remember. Thanks V.l.T. for all the memories.! Brian 1st row L-R: Carolyn Yocum. Jeanette Lascelles. Though our record might not look like it was very successful, we all learned and gained something from it. whether it was at a game, practice, on the floor or on the bench. Aside from learning a lot of volleyball skills. I think we all became more aware of a team concept and both will be helpful in the years to come. I'm sure the 1979-80 season is one we’ll always remember. All of the players would like to thank Miss. Evans for putting in all of her long hours to help us. Mr. Beasley stepped in on short notice, did a terrific job, and taught us all a great deal. We. for the first time, elected officers to help organize the band. They went as follows: President-Stephanie Beans. Vice-Pres.-Carman Smith. Secretary-Reta White, and Treasurer- Sheri Roberts. The IHSA band contest was held in Beardstown this year and we were rated in the first division. Tor this honor we received a plaque. The band really worked hard to make money this year. We sold Christmas Candles. Spice Shakers, and Gem all purpose cleaner. In the Spring we had three car washes, one at the high school, one at Vermont, and one at Ipava. We made money, had fun, and got very, very wet. We used our profits to buy an electric piano for the music department. Parades and Football games made up our marching season. We marched at the Table Grove. Astoria, and Ipava Homecoming parades. Bluffs invited us to do a joint football halftime show with them. We also performed at all the home games, and played during halftime and between games of the home basketball games. To conclude the year Mr. Malone invited us to spend a day at his home. We enjoyed a day of outdoor recreation and then watched a movie. The party and the whole year were both a complete success. Over all it was exciting and fun to be a Co-Captain and part of the squad, by Brian Porter We had a respectable and outstanding team this year. We played some big games this year and won most of them. Everybody thought we were a Cinderella team but we showed them that we weren’t. I really enjoyed playing on the team. By Terry Pilger The 1979-80 Football Hornets were a pleasant surprise to the coaching staff and community alike. What was expected to be a highly talented but too young and too inexperienced squad turned into a poised group of football players who seemed to thrive on pressure. Throughout the regular conference schedule they met every challenge, rising up to beat conference favorites. Virginia 14-12 and ISD 33-0. making them undefeated WAC champions and state playoff qualifiers. This was a team whose heart was made up of juniors, complimented by sophomores, and lead by seniors. Seniors whose leadership kept the team together during, on and off the field will be missed greatly. Lost by a predetermined fate, whose vengence and wrath are unfeeling. Lost is a life, too suddenly and unfairly ended. Lost is a being whose radiance and living affected all those who knew him. Lost is the answer to the age old question of Why? But Not forgotten is the grief and suffering that remains with us always. Not fogotten are the moments of sharing. Not forgotten are the reasons we loved and cared so much. Not forgotten are the little memories of the past that somehow mushroom to a magnitude of lasting strength. Not forgotten is the lasting comfort of knowing we were, indeed, blessed to have known someone who could have so deeply touched our lives. Lost is a person who gave so much just simply by living. Not forgotten is a person whose memory will be forever. By Janet Jackson MRS CONNOUR PRESENTING SCHOLARSHIP B. PORTER MRS. CONNOUR L. We all had a wonderful time even though it was a cold, wet day and seven of us got left at Marriots. Back at the hotel we swam, ate expensive food, and goofed off. A group of young Seniors found out the hard way that we are not old enough to be out past curfew. Sunday we went shopping and then to the Museum of Science and Industry, and then we were homeward bound. The weekend was a lot of fun, and I’m sure no one will forget it. We would like to thank our chaperones, Mr. Schoenwetter, Mrs. Webb, and Mr. and Mrs. Blodgett for putting up with us and getting us all home in one piece. We had several conflicts with meeting our deadlines due to weather, bad film. etc. but our dependable staff came through. There were a few fist fights over which soap operas to watch, but no one was seriously injured and after a lot of hard work we finally finished. We hope you will enjoy the end results.
