r£k £v EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY JOHN WALKER John Raymond Walker, Junior—what a name for one of the most versatile persons in the world. Johnny Walker ( Jeep to many of us) was granted a leave of absence from V. I. T. High School beginning in June 1973. Still, we see him occasionally when something around the school goes wrong. Johnny spent sixteen years at V.l.T. as bus driver, custodian and friend to all. Remembering his many contributions, his extra services, we all can recall the fact he made the Senior Class trip every year he was here, his immaculate cleaning ability, his interest in whatever was happening, and his jitterbug demonstration to last years juniors. Though he often hid his kindness and good deeds behind a gruff exterior, we were well aware of his genuine concern for V. I. T. Everyone who has been priviledged to know John Walker is grateful for his years of dedicated service to the school as well as his continuing service to the community. Happiness will be the day Johnny returns... 2 4 5 V.l.T. SENIORS CLASS OF '74 Class Officers, LEFT TO RIGHT: Becky Hamm, treasurer; Joe Wood, Vice-Pres.; Tony Farr, Pres.; Mark Starbuck, Sec.; Liz Marhall, Reporter. As we look back over the past four years our hearts are filled with mixed emotions. Our freshman year was filled with fright and insecurity. We wandered from room to room looking for the right classes, and some ended up in the Senior's Happy Circle . As freshmen we sold candy and followed our famous basketball team led by Mark Dohner. We were also lucky enough to be the last class to besinitiated. The next yearL our class took a step up and as sophomores we were eager and anxious. We sold magazines and learned to drive. With the arrival of our class rings, we, as Juniors, discovered a new confidence in ourselves and we undertook many responsibilities which called for our new self-assurance. During the basketball season we managed concessionsvand sold Rex so we lould give the Seniors an outstanding prom— Never Can Say Good-bye! Now, wc are encountering, our senior year with anticipation. Our year has been filled with football concessions, light bulb sales, Biology II dissections and a great basketball team led by Kent, Mike and Hondo. As we greet the ends of our high school career, we also confront the beginning of our individual lives as adults in the world outside the walls of V.l.T. 34 SUSAN ANDREA ADCOCK DAVID ALLEN ABERNATHY ROGER A. The class first elected officers to lead them. Maggie Marshall was chosen President; Marty Connour, Vice President; Gretchen Lundeen, Secretary; George Bohm, Treasurer; and Dave Corbitt Reporter. Along the journey the juniors first accomplished many things. The class was responsible for the Homecoming bonfire in October. They were also well represented by attendants Kathy Creasy and Ed Wys. After Football season, the juniors were just getting used to their new responsibility and so undertook concessions at basketball games. The end of school and the end of the journey brought April and the junior class's busiest month. Early in the month they spent many long hours preparing the class play M A S H. Later they honored the senior class with the Jr.-Sr. Prom, Pieces of April at the Western Union in Macomb. kffASL D. Blansfield G. Bohm B. Bramer B. Bramer K. Bricker P. Bubb M. Bucy D. Cassidy 47 D. The Sophomores began the school year with plenty of spirit and zest. Selling magazine subscriptions, they broke the previously held record for sales. They also tackled studies and extracurricular activities with the same energy and enthusiasm. During homecoming week, the Sophomores exhibited their school spirit by decorating the halls, inspiring themighty Hornets, the students and the faculty. Marla Jones and Mike Rumler represented the Sophomores as attendants at the homecoming dance. Also, this was the year the Sophomores had been waiting for. While Mr. Connour experienced moments of anxiety and frustration, the class eventually mastered the art of driving. They also learned the different aspects of first aid, applying bandages and giving mouth-to-mouth-resuscitation. In March, the Sophomores ordered their class rings, receiving their first glimpse of the future as upperclassmen. J. Abernathy D. Aten S. Bean H. Ellinger J. Fawcett K. Frye R. Fuller H. Bramer L. Here came the class of '77...up the hall from east to west to join the ranks of the privileged. Escaping initiation and intimidation by the mighty seniors, they quickly entered into high school activities with a flair. During Homecoming, the freshmen tackled the responsibility of decorating the football field. They did a great job, setting the scene for a festive week. Susan Schisler and Don Harper represented the class as freshmen attendants at their first homecoming dance. The sweet freshmen's next project was selling candy as the first deposit towards their class bankroll. By now they had quickly adapted to the pace of high school life. They came, they saw, and they conquered Typing, General Business, THE PEARL, and all other first year subjects. They developed new friendships and began to evolve into happy, but hectic, students. S. Abernathy, Gerry Adele Cassidy, SIXTH ROW; Gregory Alan Webb, Joyce Ann Pittman, David A. Danner, Jo Ann Hollenback, Gordon Alan Goodin, Janis Kaye Weaver, Brian Hale McCormick, Vicki Lynn Saurbaugh, Thomas Eugene Glover. Class Motto: We Dream of Things That Never Were And Say, Why Not? 112 BACCALAUREATE SUNDAY MAY26,1974 8:00 P.M. COMMENCEMENT | WEDNESDAY 8:00P.M. TIME My time has come my hour glass has run dry The wind of time has blown the sand of life away Short are the strokes of the life giving machine My time is coming up I'm almost gone I see visions before my eyes of days long gone by And then: a flash- of things to come pass before me now My time is up I'm gone Joyce Pittman Dreams — so they say Are for the fools and they let them drift away. Peace — like the silent dove Should be fly in' but it's only just begun. Like Columbus in the olden days We must gather all our courage. Sail our ships out on the open sea, Cast away our fears And all the years will come and go And take us up — always up For we may never pass this way again.
