Those were the days my friend, We thought they’d never end. We’d sing and dance forever and a day. We’d live the life we chose, We’d fight and never lose. For we were young and sure to have our way. LENNY SENIORS Seniors 73 OFFICERS LEFT TO RIGHT: Reporter: Rita Baker Treasurer: Connie Hughes Secretary: John Kendrick V. President: Jane Wherley President: Marlin McCormick As Seniors we entered our final year of high school with a deep feeling of priority and leadership. To uphold our responsibilities, we handled football concessions, successfully organized our Homecoming chili supper and produced our second class play. Our Senior year was filled with the adventure and excitement that we had anticipated. As time marched on, we began to realize that this chapter of our life would soon come to an end; thus we strived to make the most of every single moment remaining. Looking back we find that we have indeed, survived the Pytha gorean Theory, animal dissection, and OEDIPUS THE KING. We shall always cherish the memories of our many good times and lasting friendships. Upon leaving V.I.T., we summarize the past four years full of both disappointments and success. We are appreciative of the patience and understanding of our instructors. They have equiped us with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to meet the challenge which lies ahead. Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise G haste, G remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quetly G clearly; and listen to others, even the dull G ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud G aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain G bitter; for always there will be greater G lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign af- fection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity G disenchantment it is perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue G loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees G the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe if unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors G aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery G broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. 1927 by Max Ehrmann. All rights reserved. Copyright renewed 1954 by Bertha K. Ehrmann. We arrived at the Ramada Inn at 11:00, checked in, and quickly departed for Six Flags. For eight energetic hours the group rode rides and rides, and more rides - even our sponsors joined in on the fun. Afterwards we ate at Shakey's and then returned to our hotel room for a not so quiet night's rest. We had nothing to fear for with Mrs. Dailey answering the phone and Mrs. Inman patroling the halls we were safe from such dangers as baseball players! After a quick breakfast at Sambo's Sunday morning, the weary Senior class started back home. Decorated in blue and white, the theme was based on the song title, Never Can Say Goodbye . After a delicious meal, the Seniors enjoyed their prophecies presented by Gerry Cassidy and Joe Wood. The Jets provided the music for the Seniors' last and most memorable occasion in high school. The court named Jane Wherley as queen and Dale McCurdy as king. The first runner-up title went to Sandy McMullen and John Kendrick. Connie Hughes and Randy Parks were second runners-up. Third runners-up were Georgia Johnson and Alfred Seward. Becky Inman and Ricky Ellinger assisted the court by bearing crowns of white daisys. As the night ended, everyone rushed to parties, yet a sincere feeling of regret was evident, for the moment so long anticipated was finally over. The Seniors realized that an important chapter of their lives was about to end and discovered that in one sense they really Never Can Say Goodbye. Starting the 1972-73 school year as upperclassmen, the Juniors elected the following officers: President, Linda Easley; Vice President, Jamell Harris; Secretary, Linda Horwedel; Treasurer, Gerry Cassidy; and Reporter, Mike Engel. From there the Junior Class ambitiously accomplished various responsibilities. We then anxiously awaited the arrival of our class rings in October. With zeal and spirit the class planned the bonfire. At the homecoming dance our representatives were Linda Easley and Tony Farr. The money making projects included, basketball concessions, the selling of Rex Cleaner, and the class play The Skeleton Walks. The Juniors planned the Junior-Senior Prom entitled Never Can Say Good-Bye held at the Western Illinois University Union. This was a lasting memory to end the high school years of the 1973 Senior Class. D. Hamm B. Hammond J. Harris M. Hezlep J. Pittman N. Rademaker S. Rector E. Filling the positions were President: Kristy Azbell, Vice-President: Rick Poen Secretary: Kathy Kendrick, Treasurer: Doug Hamm. October was a busy month, for as Sophomores we were appointed to decorate the halls, cafeteria and lobby for Homecoming. It was alot of hard work, but very much appreciated. Our representatives in the Homecoming Court were Gretchen Lundeen and Ben Fawcett. Also during October, we sold magazines as our fund raising project, earning approximately $850. Obtaining our drivers' licenses was an exciting experience and we did scare Mr. Connour a few times. In February, we ordered our class rings and were pleased to hear they would arrive in May rather than next September. Therefore, we were looking forward to being upperclassmen. 93 D. Hampton R. BUT SOMEWHERE OUT THERE BEYOND THIS FENCE LIES THE EDGE OF THE WORLD FRESHMEN We've grown to be accepted members of the V.I.T. student body. Leading our class was President: Mike Rumler, Vice-president: Kelly Frye, Secretary: Denise Winship, Treasurer: James Pittman, Reporter: Cindy Hollenback. Through a candy campaign we started our class fund. With enthusiasm and spirit we decorated the press box at Homecoming. Sarah Wood and Randy Vaughn were our representatives in the Homecoming court. Feeling like true residents of V.I.T. Hornet Country, we're looking forward to the next three years. 98 J. Abernathy D. Aten S. Bean L. Brown K. Burlingame G. Buswell V. Chambers C. Cleer V. Derry J.
