Standing: Dennis Bassett and Carol Derry, Student Council Representatives. 21 Fred Current Nancy Smith 22 Senior Zrip 23 Senior Class .History In the fall of 1961, we began our high school careers by selecting the following officers: President--Dennis Bassett, Vice-President--Ketra Mytich, Secretary--Becky Baily, Treasurer--Cecilia Wright, Reporter--Steve Burgard, Student Council--Bobby Douglas and Fred Current. Our faculty sponsors were Mrs. Carlton and Mr. Snowden. After going through the terror of initiation, we looked forward to Homecoming for which we chose Ketra Mytich and Dennis Bassett as our attendants. In the decoration contests on the lawn, our entry, Autumn Harvest, won first place. During our sophomore year, our sponsors were Mrs. Brumett and Mrs. Cary. We selected as class officers: President--Fred Current, Vice-President--Dennis Bassett, Secretary--Cindy McMullen, Treasurer--Tom Speer, Reporter--Becky Baily, Student Council--Tom Speer and Kay Walters. At Homecoming time, we chose Lynn Moses and Carol Derry as attendants. All three Junior Varsity cheerleaders were sophomores: Lean Jo Bohannon. Becky Baily, and Ketra Mytich. Our money-making project for this year was the selling of magazines. We were led during our Junior year by these officers: President--Cindy McMullen, Vice-President--Sibyl Butcher, Secretary--John Kost, Treasurer--Cecilia Wright, Reporter--Tom Speer, Student Council--Ketra Mytich and Roy Cripe. Mr. and Mrs. Cary and Mr. Hunter were our sponsors for the year. During the first week of school, our class sponsored a Back to School dance. We were responsible too for the concession stand at basketball games. Our class play, The Perfect Idiot,” directed by Mrs. Baily, was very successful and well attended. The high spot of our Junior year came in May when we entertained the Senior class at the annual Prom. The theme, Blue Hawaii, was successfully and tastefully carried out. The dinner preceding the dance was held at the LaMoine Hotel in Macomb, Illinois. In our Senior year, we shall always remember the privilege of having a foreign exchange student, Flor del Carmen Valverde Gomez, as a member of our class. Flor is a native of Costa Rica and we shall always consider her a true friend. Our senior officers were President--Fred Current, Vice-President--Lyle Arnett, Secretary--Kay Walters, Treasurer--Tom Speer, Reporter--Neal Gamm, and Student Council--Dennis Bassett and Carol Derry. Our faculty sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Cary and Mr. Inman. At the first big social event of the year, Fred Current and Ketra Mytich were honored to be chosen as Homecoming king and queen. We wrecked our vengeance on the Freshmen on initiation day. The formal ceremony that evening was carried out very effectively. Royalty was present in our class also in the persons of Joyce Conner, queen of the Winter Mist Dance, and Ketra Mytich and Lena Jo Bohannon, track queens. Our class play, Headin’ for a Weddin’,” was directed by Mrs. Horack. This play, a hillbilly comedy, was truly a smash hit. Our class was entertained by the Juniors at the annual Prom. This gala event, carrying the theme Roman Holiday,” was truly appreciated, from the chicken dinner at the Beehive, all during the evening in the beautifully decorated gymnasium. Here Dennis Bassett and Ketra Mytich were crowned king and queen. One of the highlights of our Senior year was the overnight class trip to Chicago. We went by bus and while in the city stayed at the Palmer House Hotel, saw The Greatest Story Ever Told, ” a baseball game, and the museums. We ended our high school careers with Baccalaureate May 23, and Commencement May 28. 25 26 {Junior Nancy Abernathy Darwin Aten John Bair Letty Baker Ronnie Banfield Sally Sulmer Beci Burgard Gloria Burgett Ann Cassidy Connie Chenoweth Mike Coleman Donna Colston Herbie Crossman Duane Danner Beverly Demott Marilyn Demott Jim Dennis Elaine Derry Jim Dutton Shirley Easley 28 Class Judy Keefauver Kathy Kessler Joyce Kingery Ruth Lamm John Maxson 29 {Junior Class Walter Raudabaugh Beverly Wherley Denny Wherley Rusty Wilson Charles Wise Sheryl Weld Karalinda Worsdell Gary Wright 30 Sophomore Class Judy Julia Terry Richard Ernest Abernathy Abernathy Arnett Beaird Bennet John Vickie Lucy Melissa Kenneth By bee Cable Cook Current Danner Terry Danner Connie Carolyn Russell Dean DeMott Demott Martha Sandra Bonnie Donner Douglas Galliher Mina Dildine 31 Sophomore Sharon Glore Greg Gray Leroy Connie Janet Gray Harris Heflin Don Dan Nancy Jerry Jeanie Hezlep Hickman Hughes Jones Keith Judy Darlene Sam Beverly Danny Unnery Lawyer McMullen Nehmelman Parry David Judy Joyce Parsano Poen Ragan Class Ronnie Raudabaugh Diana Rutledge Carolyn Spangler Viola Reedy Ronnie Bessie Jackie Linda ears Smith Smith Snowden Curt Richmond Steve Hila Ritter Robertson Gailen Spencer Sharon Vaughn Charles Wickwire Barbara Walton Larry Wherley Joyce Wooddell Candy Weld 33 Jreshman James Gael Jerry Ivan Abernathy Baker Beaird Bennett LuAnn Bowman Donald John Barbara Edwin Beatrice Brock Bruketta Brumett Bubb Colston Jerry Conner Cindy Connour Linda Deborah Ricky Cuson Danner Danner Peggy Dutton V ; f Marshall Easley 34 Class Ruth Ann Ellison Charles Flynn Donald Heller Ronald Easley Sharon Elliot Tom Gamm Ronald Heller Brenda LaRita Franklin Heaton Heaton Heaton Robert Herink Patricia Mark Michelle Hindricks Horwedel Howell Bruce Gregory Kent Kost Lundeen Nelson Jane Hughes 35 dreskman Class Mardeen Nielsen Debbie Shaw Jackie Speer Arlene Steele Randall Stracker Robert Pilger James Rickey ■I Donette Seward Kathy Vaughn Myrna Van Pelt Micheal Ulmer Donald Vance Stephen Diana James Weaver Wickert Woods Rodney Simpson Patricia Switzer Tom Waters JUNIORS Gary Wright--President Jack Myers--Vice-President Ann Cassidy--Secretary-Treasurer Sponsors--Mrs. Horack Mrs. Holzgraefe Mrs. Hughes Mr. Hunter SOPHOMORES Terry Arnett--President Terry Danner—Vice-President Danny Hickman--Secretary Sharon Glore—Treasurer Melissa Current--Reporter Student Council--Lucy Cook Ricky Bearid Sponsors--Mrs. Brumett Mr. Ezell FRESHMEN Tom Gamm--President Mike Ulmer--Vice-President Gael Baker--Secretary Jerry Bearid--Treasurer Reporters--Jane Hughes Donny Brock Student Council--Cindy Connour John Derry Sponsor--Mrs. Barkley 37 VJXWelcomes 3lor A pretty dark-haired senorita from Costa Rica was VIT’s first foreign exchange student. Miss Flor del Carman Valverde Gomez, more commonly known to her classmates as Flor, resided this past school year with the Wilbur Dunn family in Vermont. The Dunns' daughter, Karen, was Flor’s American sister. Sponsored by the Student Council, Flor came to VIT through the auspices of the American Field Service in New York. During her stay here Flor was enrolled in English IV, advanced biology, chemistry, and advanced math. She also was a member of the senior high chorus. During the school year she was made an honorary member of the Student Council. In addition to these school activities Flor attended and spoke to over fifteen meetings of local area organizations. We as students and teachers feel that having Flor with us this past year was a rewarding experience. We hope she carried back to Costa Rica as much understanding as we gained from her here in the United States. 38 Activities 39 Annual Staff Seated: Mrs. Holzgraefe, N. Gamm, N. Smith, C. McMullen, T.
