We elected as our class officers: Barry Frye--President; Gordon Cornelius- Vice President; Beverly Netzer--Secretary; Val Neil-sen--Treasurer; and Marshall Farr, Carol Jean Speer, Dale Brown, and Kay Burgett--Student Council. The girls who represented our class in sports as cheerleaders were Sandy Mayall and Linda Harris. Our majorettes were Pam Harris and Nancy Atwater. Our football statistics were; six wins--no losses and the basketball statistics were twenty wins and five losses. We were sorry that our Homecoming game was spoiled that year because of the flu, but the Homecoming attendants were Carol Jean Speer and Gordon Cornelius. Out class sponsors were Miss Brown and Mr. Williams. Our sophomore year opened with a membership of fifty-four and a new school building. Our class officers were: Gordon Cornelius--President; Ron Blemler--Vice President; Bev Steele--Secretary; Linda Flynn--Treasurer; and Sandy Mayall and Ed Counselman--Student Council. The Homecoming attendants chosen that year were Sandy Mayall and Harold Thompson. Gordon Cornelius headed the scoring on the football team with thirty points. Also that year our magnificent sophomore boys brought home the first place trophy in the County B Tournament. Their final season run turned out with seventeen wins and only three losses. Pam Harris and Nancy Atwater led the band again as majorettes and Sandy Mayall and Linda Harris led the boys on to victory as cheerleaders. To start our first year of upperclassmen, we elected Barry Frye as our President; Phil Icenogle as the Vice President; Val Neilsen--Secretary; and Kay Burgett as Treasurer; and Ed Counselman and Rose Etta Easley as Student Council. In football, the season record brought in seven wins and one loss, and in basketball, the season record was eighteen wins and seven losses. The cheerleaders behind the teams from our class were Linda Harris, Mary Jane Schleich, and Carole Weaver. Pam Harris was a majorette and Nancy Atwater moved up to drum major. Our Homecoming attendants were Sandy Mayall and Ron Blemler. The Sweetheart attendant from our class was Pam Harris. In November of 1959, we presented our first play, Finders Creepers and in May of 1960, we put our heads together and decorated the gym for the Junior-Senior Prom with our theme Paradise of the Deep. Mrs. DeKoster was the new sponsor added. Forty-four seniors finished our final year at V. I. T. with President--Barry Frye; Vice President--Gordon Cornelius; Secretary--Carol Jean Speer; Treasurer--Sandy Mayall; and Student Council--Val Neilsen and Ed Counselman. Fred Bulmer and Gordon Cornelius were co-captains of the football team which won three and lost five games. Fred was basketball captain also and the team had fourteen wins and eight losses. The cheerleaders cheering the boys on were Carole Weaver, Pam Harris, Sandy Mayall, Mary Jane Schleich, and Linda Harris. The 1960-61 Homecoming King and Queen were Ron Blemler and Sandy Mayall. Our Homecoming scene won first place. Carol Jean Speer was Track Queen and Val Neilsen was Sweetheart Queen with Carol Jean Speer, Pam Harris, Kay Burgett, and Bev Steele as her attendants. To add some spice to class plays, the Seniors of 1961 presented Twelve Angry Jurors using the gym floor as the stage and again directed by Miss Brown. The Juniors honored us in an Oriental Garden for a lovely evening at the Junior-Senior Prom. Janice Thompson and Bill Palmer were chosen to rule the royal court at the Prom. Our final step from high school was May 31, 1961 with our high school diplomas from V.I.T. in our hands. Our sponsors were Miss Brown, Miss Eddington, and Mr. Williams. Our Class Project all four years was selling light bulbs. SENIOR CLASS WILLS WE THE SENIOR CLASS OF 1961 of V. I. T. HIGH SCHOOL do hereby will and bequeath the following. Mary. $ PROPHECY Sharon Abernathy has succeeded in the Navy world as an admiral's wife but has a complex problem--she hates water. Wendell Anderson has become a great writer but he has a singularity complex--all his plays criticize English teachers. Fred Bulmer has finally married Kay Burgett. He has just been elected Secretary of the Treasury. His picture is now on all $3. 00 bills and hers on all $6. 00 bills. Chuck Brock just received an Oscar for his acting performances but he keeps wanting to do Finders Creepers over again. Joanne Cook has split her affections between Clarence and his model A Ford. Linda Flynn was elected housewife of the year despite tough competition from Rose Etta Smith and Phillis Chipman. Janice Thompson is a successful nurse. Her husband Jack is a mortician, probably this is just a coincidence. Vallerie Nielsen has also become a nurse and specializes in taking care of the little Chenoweth animals. Nancy Atwater has become the first woman to win the Indianapolis 500. Jerry Carrison is a respectable businessman who has made millions importing green cheese from the moon. He says there are no import duties on it. Gordon Cornelius is still going to college. He liked it so well he is on a twenty year plan. He was recently elected president of the Sigma Fi Nothing Fraternity. Carol Jean Speer is an award winning novelist. She achieved immediate success with her first novel The Life and Loves of the Class of '61. Ed Counselman is running a gas station, however he uses most of the gasoline in his dragster on Sunday afternoons at the drag strip. Kenneth Darling owns his own cigarette factory, but word has it he smokes away most of the profits. His brand name is Skeed's Weeds. Dan Elliott has become a rear admiral in the Navy. He has almost conquered his seasickness. Mary Jane Erb now lives in California and is raising little sailors. Marshall Farr, Jim Weese, and Gene Walker are partners in an automobile company. Marshall designs the motors. Jim designs the exhaust system, and Gene is test driver for the firm. The newest model is called We Walk Farr. Charles Gilson has left on a journey to a far planet. When word was last received he was getting farther out all the time. Linda Harris is married and is the proud ruler of her own little Bailiwick. Pam Harris is an English teacher. Her only problem in life is teaching her own 7 little ones the difference between adverbials and predicate nominatives. Jeff Hatch is playing the part of a bad villain in a bad TV series. Phyllis Hopping is the secretary to John Hadsall but has trouble getting her work done because most of her time is spent on the boss's lap. Phil Icenogle is a great atomic scientist. He recently caught up with sixth hour Chemistry class. Rodney Keefauver and John Woods have made their fortune in stereophonic records of authenic jungle noises. Clarence Keller and Bill Shank are working on a perpetual motion machine. Once started it never stops. Unfortunately, they haven't got it in motion as of yet. Barbara Lannery married an ex-GI who bought her a snazzy convertible battleship. Sandy Mayall spends most of her time coaching her and Ronnie's basketball team. All Blemlers of course. Ronnie Blemler is now head coach at Bernadotte U. He has become famous for his strict enforcement of training rules. Bonnie McCarty is in charge of music at the Metropoliton Opera. She stacks it in neat little piles. Bill Palmer is a bus driver on the Table Grove to Astoria run. He got the job because he could drive the road blindfolded. Mary Jane Schleich has given up M.G. 's in favor of a bus. There are several little Mosher's you know. Beverly Steele is the Physical Education teacher for the President. They are making sure, by Bev's strict rules, that America’s youth won't get soft. Barry Frye has recently had some shady legislation passed lowering the legal age for presidential candidates. He is running in 1972 on the Regressive Demagogues ticket. His platform is based on the abolition of Volkswagons and putting really big cars on the road. A building plan is included for expanding home garages. Carole Weaver coaches the Bradford basketball team. They usually defeat the Blemler’s. I wonder why. The Blemlers 5' 5 are no match to Bradford's 6' 6 . Richard Thompson is a professional athlete. He runs the quarter mile in 5 min. flat. This isn't very good but he usually manages to beat Ed Counselman's dragster. CAROL JEAN SPEER F. H. A. 1,2, 3,4 F. H. A. President 4 G. A. A. 1.2, 3,4 G. A. A. DEADLY ERNEST It all started when Henry's boss fired him and his girl friend threw him overboard and Aunt Ethel ordered him from her boarding house because of no rent money. Poor, homeless, girl-less, and jobless Henry, spending the night in a park meets one Mr. Bumpus and pours out his troubles! It just happens that Mr. Bumpus has a friend named Ernest who, for only seventeen dollars and eighty-three cents, puts poor, downtrodden people like Henry out of their misery! So Henry, in his pitiful, forlorn condition, pays the money and goes back home. Much to his surprise everything is fine! Life was never happier and--BOING--he remembers he's paid his last cent to someone named Ernest to get rid of him! Well, things finally end all right, but not before some drastic happenings occur. To be deadly earnest --it was terrific!
