1959 presented by THE SENIOR CLASS Y.l.T. HIGH SCHOOL Table Grove, Illinois We wish to take this opportunity to thank members of the yearbook staff who sold advertising, prepared copy, and sold subscriptions to make the 1959 Vitorian a reality. A special thank you also is due our advertisers, patrons, and subscribers without whose loyal and generous financial support this book would not have been possible. Browse through the picture album which the members of the Vitorian Staff have prepared of the important events in the life of students at V.I.T. High School during the past year. The Kings and Queens and Royalty who reigned over these events of the fall, winter, and spring seasons will guide you through our Book of Memories of 1958-1959. Prophecy WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING CLASS OF 19S9 (An exclusive interview between Peggy Kessler, the blonde Brigitte Bardot of 19 ? , and Dixie Frye, top brass in the United States Air Force. The two former classmates in good old V.I.T. HIGTTSCHOOL meet by chance9?? years from the date of their graduation.) DIXIE: Why, it's Peggy Kessler! I've been reading all about your command performances before the Royalty of Europe. How wonderful to see you again. No wonder they call you the Brigitte Bardot of 19? . PEGGY: Why, Dixie Frye—I heard you now have your own private force of men. How welTT remember when you first joined up. Much has happened since then. DIXIE: Well, come on over here so we can talk about old times. It has been so long since I've talked with anyone from our old class! PEGGY: Well, I would come over but I don't see any place to sit. DIXIE: I'll soon fix that. Just a minute. (With a sharp command she brings three of her men out, and they quickly set up two chairs side by side. With another sharp command she dismisses them.) There--now we can sit down and talk. Tell me, how was your trip to Europe? PEGGY: It was simply fabulous!! ! And how have you been with all your separate Air Force Branches--all male, of course. DIXIE: Oh, everything is just perfect. Say, have you seen any of the old gang around? PEGGY: Well. The other day I ran into CATHY MARSHALL. She married that famous basketball coach Jerry Curless and they have twelve kids. DIXIE: Twelve kids? I imagine she is very happy raising her own basketball team. (pause--small laugh) That's almost as funny as JUDY BRINTON. Did you hear what happened to her? PEGGY: No, I didn’t. DIXIE: Well, she married Lynn Carrison and they have seven kids. PEGGY: Well, I guess that's four years of Home Ec put to good use. DIXIE: Sure is. I wonder what ever happened to Judy's girl friend, BONA BILLINGSLEY. The last I heard of her was that she was working as a lab technician to a famous scientist and that she was still unmarried. PEGGY: I bet she doesn't stay that way long. I heard her boss was unmarried, too. (They both nod their heads agreeingly.) DIXIE: Wasn't there someone else who used to run around with Judy and Bona. Let's see, her name was Pansy or something like that. PEGGY: Patsy! Yes, PATSY FARR. Oh, I just heard about her the other day. DIXIE: How is she doing? PEGGY: Just fine. She has become a nurse, and she helps her husband, a mortician, by not helping her own patients. DIXIE: How clever! I saw her cousin, KETRA BROWN, the other day. She is that famous model who married Carroll Schoonover. I believe that was the name. PEGGY: You might say, she would be a model wife. (They both laugh over this.) DIXIE: Say, have you heard anything from PAT TINGLEY. She used to write to me but I haven't heard from her lately. PEGGY: Well, the last time I got a letter from her she had just married some wealthy business man and for their honeymoon, they were touring the universe in their three billion dollar super-deluxe Space Ship. DIXIE: You remember JIM HERRIFORD, don't you? Well, I heard he was made assistant manager of Tingley Products in Ipava. I wonder if he isn't the wealthy business man Pat married. PEGGY: It just could be. What ever happened to Jim’s pals. Let's see, there was GERALD PALM. Oh say, isn't he the boy who joined the Navy? DIXIE: Yes, and just between you and me, I hear he has a girl in every port. PEGGY: That TOM GROFF joined the Marines and now he is a 4-Star General. DIXIE: Was he any good? PEGGY: He beat the Russians single-handed. DIXIE: If you think that's something, listen to this. You remember JAMES SHANK, don't you? PEGGY: He was that short boy who was always cracking jokes. DIXIE: Well, you'll never believe this. James is a world-famous Judo wrestler and has licked all the famous fighters in Japan. PEGGY: Oh, no!! Say, I heard from his friend CAY CARITHERS the other day. DIXIE: Yes, I remember Cay. PEGGY: Cay has become the most famous and loudest auctioneer, racing around from sale to sale on his motor scooter. DIXIE: That's what I'd call doing fast business. PEGGY: That reminds me. I read the strangest thing in the paper the other day. It was about Phil. DIXIE: You don't mean PHIL HARRIS. PEGGY: None other. He has started a nation-wide fad--rhinestone-heeled cowboy boots, for the man about town. DIXIE: That reminds me of CHARLES DAILY--better known as Charles Dailon. He has a large photographic studio and specializes in Cheesecake. PEGGY: (Loud gasp) Oh, no! What won't happen next? DIXIE: Well prepare yourself again and I'll tell you what I heard about STANLEY HANEY. PEGGY: I guess I'm ready. DIXIE: Well, he has opened up a beauty salon in New York City and has become a world famous hair dresser. Of course, he specializes in men’s home permanents. PEGGY: I wonder if he has anything to do with EDDIE CURTHS' success. DIXIE: Eddie Curths! Isn’t he called Playboy Curths, the toast of Europe? PEGGY: Yes, that’s our Eddie. He's been racing in the Indianapolis Speedway. DIXIE: (Confidently) Probably just for practice. (They both laugh) PEGGY: I imagine he stops in quite often to see JANET NEHMELMAN then. She owns a large and very expensive lounge known as the Green Pines, located close to Havana--Cuba. DIXIE: Say, I heard from her girl friend, LINDA DANNER, the other day. She has a real cool set-up in her home, doing bookkeeping practice sets for the Bookkeeping classes of V.I.T. She has just lowered the price to $4.75 a set. PEGGY: Too bad she wasn't in business when we were slaving away in Bookkeeping Class. DIXIE: Yes, isn’t that the truth. I imagine she would have made quite a sum off of all of us. PEGGY: Say, have you heard anything from JOHN BULMER? He joined the Air Force, too. DIXIE: You mean you haven't heard about Big John? PEGGY: No. Hurry and tell me! DIXIE: Well, he has become that famed Air Force novelist. I just finished his latest book entitled, Fly By Night. It's fantastic! PEGGY: I must get a copy right away. It sounds frightfully interesting. DIXIE: It is!! ! What ever happened to our good friend NORMA GALE? PEGGY: She owns her own Fish Market in Browning. The only thing she has caugnt yet is Weishaar. DIXIE: Jerry Weishaar, no doubt. Say, have you heard from our other old girl friend, MARGARET YOUNG? PEGGY: You mean you haven't seen her on T.V.! She has become a famous coast-to-coast comedian. Don't you remember how she was always trying out her corny jokes on nco DIXIE: Yes, and to think now she is being paid for it. (They both readily agree and laugh) PEGGY: Say, when I was flying to Europe last fall, guess whom I saw. DIXIE: I give up--Who? PEGGY: JANICE WILSON! Janice, in order to become an airline stewardess has taken Dr. West’s Green Grow Vitamins and has achieved her success. She is now a green airline stewardess. (Dixie goes into hysterics over this) DIXIE: (Trying to calm herself) Do you remember JOHN WEESE? PEGGY: Yes--he was our Senior Class President. DIXIE: Well, just to save the farmers some time, he has invented a push-button corn planter. PEGGY: Speaking about inventions, I just read in the paper where PHIL RICHMOND has been promoted to Chief Engineer. He is now working on his plans for the next rocket to space. DIXIE: I always knew that boy would go places--even if it is only in a space ship. PEGGY: Have you heard from JANE WELKER? She was the girl who married James Schmuecker. DIXIE: Why yes, I got a letter from her the other day. She is living in North Carolina with her three children while her husband is sailing on the Atlantic. Since she is living so close to the ocean, she wants me to drop in some day. Wasn't that thoughtful of her? PEGGY: I’ll have to go down with you. I haven’t seen her for a long time. DIXIE: You remember her friend, SHELBA LAFARY, don’t you? PEGGY: Yes, she was always such a shy girl. DIXIE: Well you would never know Shelba these days. She is such a cut-up. You know she is that famous surgeon at the New York Medical Center, don't you? PEGGY: (Laughing) No, I didn’t but I happened to run into her girl friend, BEA SCHISLER, the other day, though. She is arranging music for the NBC Symphony Orchestra. DIXIE: Really! (Excited) PEGGY: Yes, it is her job to arrange the music in neat stacks after each performance. DIXIE: If you think that is funny, listen to this. LEROY SAURBAUGH, you remember him, don't you? PEGGY: Yes. DIXIE: Leroy now owns an eleven thousand acre farm in Table Grove and specialized in raising little Saurbaughs. PEGGY: I heard about DON ICENOGLE the other day. He is now married and runs a jewelry store in Macomb. DIXIE: I bet he is making all his profit on used engagement rings--his own. PEGGY: Well, Airman Frye, I have to run. I have an appointment with the famed ARREL KEATING at 3:00. DIXIE: Arrel Keating? PEGGY: Yes, he is drumming away at the Coco Cabana nite club and is also giving bongo lessons. DIXIE: Well, I have to go, too. See you in the movies. PEGGY: I sure hope so, or else I'll be out of a job. DIXIE: I’ll tip my wings at you the next time I fly over. PEGGY: You be sure to do that. 'Bye. DIXIE: Be Seein’ you. Compliments of DR. GEORGE CZOPIWSKY Vermont Illinois LOREN WORSDELL J. I.
