 HISTORY The class of 1958 entered V.I.T. High School In the fall of '54. The class consisted of 42 members and they chose the following officers: Bill Derry, President; Bob Bohannon, Vice-President; Dennis Elliott, Secretary; and Bill Shaw, Treasurer. Student Council members from the class were Faye Byers and Gene Derry. Miss Cox and Mr. Young were our advisors. For the Homecoming float, the theme, Memories, was selected. Homecoming attendants were Luann Burgard and Carl Jocklsch. Members of the band were: Rachel Howell, Phyllis Harris, Beverly Chenoweth, Jerry Curless, Gary Tyler, Doug Bally, Larry Stambaugh, and Gene McCarty. Luann Burgard was chosen as a Cheerleader. The class sold cards for a money-making scheme and held a skating party. The class returned to school In the fall of '55 with 42 members on the class roll. They had the same advisors as In the previous year, but elected new officers. Officers elected were: Jim Tompkins, President; Bill Shaw, Vice-President; Jerry Curless, Secretary; and Rachel Howell, Treasurer. Student Council members were Faye Byers and Larry Brock. The Homecoming float, The Rose Bowl, won first prize. The only money-making project was a food sale held In all three towns. There were nine hand students, two speech contestants, fifteen chorus members, nineteen boys out for sports, and one cheerleader from this group. Thlrty-slx members were on the roll when the class started their Junior year. The officers were: Carol Bohm, President; Jerry Curless, Vice-President; Faye Byers, Sectetary; and Doug Bally, Treasurer. Luann Burgard and Larry Stambaugh were the Student Council members. Class advisors were Miss Cox, Mrs. Schaffer, and Mr. Hunter. For thesecond year, the class took first prize with their Homecoming float, the theme this year being, Moments to Remember . Attendants were Faye Byers and Jerry Curless. Rachel Howell was Drum Major with Phyllis Harris as her Assistant. Luann Burgard again served as a cheerleader. The class was well represented In all major sports and activities. The Junior Class Play was Hobgoblin House. It was a great success and was presented on April 4 and 5. Miss Brown was the director. The cast consisted of twelve members. The Junior-Senior Pirom and Banquet was held May 3. The theme was Japanese Tea Garden. The banquet was served In the Vermont Grade School Gym followed by the dance In the gym at Table Grove. The orchestra was The Blue Flames. The class sold cards and had the concession stand at basketball games for money-making projects. Ir September '5? thirty-four members enrolled for their Senior year at V.I.T. All hoped to graduate In May. Class officers chosen were: Carol Bohm, President; Larry Stambaugh, Vice-President; Doug Bally, Secretary; Rachel Howell, Treasurer; Faye Byers, Ruth Chenoweth, Dennis Elliott, and Jerry Cuness were Student Council members. Miss Cox, Mrs. Peak, and Mr. Hunter were our advisors. On September 6, 1957 the class had charge of Freshman Initiation. In the evening formal Initiation services were held followed by a dance. Due to the flu bug, no Homecoming was held this year but Luann Burgard and Jerry Curless were selected King and Queen and were officially crowned at the Athletic Banquet. Mumbo Jumbo was the play selected by the class. Mrs. Bally directed the cast for the play which was presented on April 10 and 11 to a large and enthusiastic audience. On May 2 the class was the honored guests at the Junior- Senior Prom and Banquet. The banquet was served at the West Student Prince In Macomb followed by the dance in the Table Grove Gym. The theme was Paris Under the Stars . Decorations In the gym featured cleverly decorated little picturesque French cafes. Phyllis Harris was chosen Drum Major this year and Luann Burgard was a cheerleader. VTT's basketball team, composed of practically all Senior boys, chalked up a good record.Band members were: Phyllis Harris, Doug Bally, Jerry Curless, Gary Tyler, and Gene McCarty. Baccalaureate Service for the class was held on May 25 and Graduation was held May 29.
