Winn HISTORY OF UVALDE HIGH SCHOOL 1930-1947 ' In the summer of 1929, under the administration of superintendent Guy D. Dean, the building of our present high school was in progress and by the spring of 1930 the building was practically completed. Its science and homemaking laboratories, its library, and its auditorium were such improvements over the old building. Under the supervision of the new superintendent. C. D. Landolt. the old North Uvalde school house was moved to Schwartz Street opposite the high school and fitted up for voca- tional agriculture in 1943. Boys' dressing quarters for physical education and football were built adjoining this building. The girls' physical education classes took over the quarters formerly used by the boys on the north end of the main building. Since the beginning of the school the number of students has increased from approx- imately 300 to approximately 400. The number of faculty members has increased from 12 to 20. . Many curriculum changes have been made since the beginning of the school. At pres- ent the subjects taught are: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, General Science, Aeronautics, General Math, Algebra I, II. Plane Geometry, Solid Geometry. Trigonometry, English I. II, IH, IV, Ty ing I, Bookkeeping, Secretarial Training, Speech, Spanish I, II, World History. American lglistory, Texas History, Homemaking I, II, III, Vocational Agriculture I, II, Physical Education, Visual Aids, Chorus, Band, Violin, and Art. Now Uvalde is watching her high school grow even more as construction on the gymnasium-music hall and new football stadium is begun. - C
