Mississippi Educational Television assembled a large production team for the teletaping, headed by award winning producer Curtis Davis. Ed Van Cleef of the Mississippi ETV staff was executive producer. A Bayou Legend, by William Crant Still from Woodsville, Mississippi was originally set in the Gulf Coast Bayou. Utica junior College, one of the founding members of Opera South, played a vital part in the production. Its chorus and ballet dancers teamed up with units from jackson State University to serve as the Opera South chorus and ballet dancers. Dr. Bobby Cooper was director of the choral unit and Miss Bobbie Mason was ballet choreographer. Utica junior College yielded a beautiful and bountiful harvest of homecoming festivities for the 1979-80 school year. The Coronation Ball got underway on Thursday night in the LD. Boyd Gymnasium. The theme Forever Mine was perfect, for the persons associated with the pageant were forever ours. Making the first appearance on the floor were royal subjects, kings and queens representing various clubs, organizations, and classes. The charming young ladies wore ice-blue gowns with a draped neck and the kings were dressed in white tuxedoes with matching white shoes. Capturing the attention of the audience was the lovely Miss UJC, Rosie jones of Utica, who was escorted by S.C.O. President Eugene Frazier. Alternates to Miss UIC were Gwendolyn Hubbard, escorted by PJ. Palmer and Carolyn Hunt escorted by Willie Stimage. The radiance and beauty of the queens filled the audience with glee. The traditional parade, held on Friday through downtown Utica, was the largest and the most attractive ever. Numerous gaily decorated floats and bands combined to entertain the spectators. Scores of local townspeople turned out for the gala occasion. I . E V ' .5 2 , X . 1 ' R Alcom State Band , . The drama satirizes the foibles of the Gable family, an oddly assorted group of four spinsters dominated by a masterful dowager named Mrs. Lamb. Temperament begins to stir in the Gables teapot when the aged and fierce Miss Neville arrives on the scene. Miss Neville is an opponent worthy of doughty Mrs. Lamb's steel, and for a while seriously threatens the cherished peace and harmony of the Gables. But an accident befalling a beloved cat, the kindly intervention of Violet Knox and the irresistible influence of Christmas Eve finally soften the adamant hearts of Mrs. Lamb and Miss Neville. For once and for all we see the Gables family happy and united whole, singing carols as they finish decorating for the Christmas party. -Ji- ' A J t L Q N , -0 'I . f N ' fo i g, q,4 - 5 In Y N s 3 ffm ' 73 ' 3' '-3 i 3 . . fi Q - , 4 .Q .:.. , , - ,ni 1 i ' ' . As a child, I'd watch my brothers work on their car and there were times when they'd get stuck and didn't know what to do, then I'd hoped that I could help them but didn't know myself. So l decided that I'd learn not only to help them in distressed times, but to also help myself. I enjoy traveling alone and can never tell when my car might quit or even need oil or a simple tune-up, so it is time like those that I need to go for what l know, and if I don't know, my car simply won't go. l enjoy doing things for myself, I hate waiting on anyone especially when it is something that I can learn on my own, so mechanics is my thing. The photo memories have been a result of diligent work. We tried to capture the memories, activities, events and performances of our lives throughout the year here at Utica junior College. It is a crucial time for us, students, faculty, staff, administrators and community people. We must therefore concern ourselves actively and work toward intellectual growth. Through unity we may all have pride in the preservation for out heritage as well as our posterity. As we graduating sophomores near the end of our journey, we will remember those we left behind. The class of 1980 appreciates the generosity shown toward us during our stay. The faculty worked hard that we might grow and remember the things that brought us joy and happiness, and those things that made our journey a pleasant one lhere at Utica junior College.
