Mr. J. D. Boyd hecame superintendent of Utica Institute in 1951 and served with his wife, Mrs. C. B. Boyd, as superintendent until 1954 when he organized the junior college and became its frst president. It was under President Boyd's leadership that the enrollment of the high school department was increased from three hundred to almost nine hundred studentsg the physcial plant was improved to the tune of approximately a million dollarsg and the high school was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Mr. Boyd is now president of Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College. '15 E NLF' In 1946, Mr. james W. Grantham hecame head of the school. He and his wife served until 1951. With ejjziciency and dedication he improved the curriculum, transportation, facilities, and stay? of the school. He is now serving as Professor of Education at Grambling College. Like other outstanding forerunners of Utica junior College, Mr. Crantham will leave his footprints in the sands of timej' through his ejforts to educate the masses.
