 Less laid-bock ujos another country superstar, Johnny Poycheck. who ployed to o tmy. but vocal audience in the Spectrum. Poycheck song the proises of the honky-tonk life. Coming to Logon from down under. Australian rockers Air Supply proved its music wasn't the product of o recording studio. Their stoge show exhibited o level of professionalism that obviously delighted the fans. Firefall. from neighboring Colorodo, gove USU o dose of mellow rock, while local bonds Steelin' Bock and Czro Nature provided on afternoon of reloxotion for the dorm population. The other side of the musical coin was also represented on campus in the form of Vorujon Kojian and the Utoh Symphony Orchestra which mokes regular appearances ot USU. And each spring, the student body is treated to on entertoinment change-of-pace when the Royol Lichtenstein Circus sweeps into town. This small troupe, sons bigtop, combines escape thrills, sleight-of-hond ond animal acts with comedy comp for delightful results. Offering another perspective on culture wos o voriety of donee groups thot include the Montano State Repertory Theatre, the Concert Donee Company ond Rine-LUoodbury Donee Company. Hub fire Hortmo vt for beyond the spectrum of women's rights. A few of these include Jomoke Highwoter, Blockfoot Indian anthropologist, musicol historian ond author; Dame! Schorr, television journalist; Dr. Domel Bell. Horvard professor, sociologist ond editor; Leonard Thompson. Vole history professor ond expert on South Africa; ond Ion Smith, controversial former prime minister of Rhodesio (now Zimbabwe). The USU student body wasn't starved for entertainment events either, with such stars os John Denver ond the Leigh Mc-Closkey. of Dallas, mokmg appearances. Molly Hotchet hocked its woy into the hearts of o select audience in the Spectrum. ond Californian Tim UJeisberg. clod in shorts in the middle of the inhospitable Logon winter, hod his fons oskmg themselves Does this guy ploy jazz or rock? No matter the category, however. Tim blew o hot flute, ond everyone went home hoppy. The Charlie Daniels Bond brought its own brand of downhome southern rock ‘n roll, to USU ond extolled the virtues of loid-bock country living. Carlier in the year the Atlonto Rhythm Section found Logon ond left of toste of rock music in the souls of mony students.

Frederick Montredl Sisk tion. R week of posters, dooms, speechs ond George L. Tirebiter brought many students to question the validity of student elections. To those ojho took them seriously, the week of compoigning proved voluoble. Only for the few that become RSU5U officers did the effort bear tongible fruit. Tirebiter, o protest candidate, wos olternotely praised ond ridiculed by various foctions of the student body. In o unique comooign ploy, hundreds of old tires were distributed oround compus, ond, depending on o person's pomt-of-view. graced or defaced the university landscape. Numerous students complained that the tires were a nuisance, and an order from the USU president’s office forced the Tirebiter troup to remove the campaign material before sundown. Not even classroom material was free from the moral judgments of students. Heterosexual love making positions depicted on a filmstrip proved to be offensive enough for five students to complain to local police. The filmstrip used in the class. Human Sexuality 404. brought out the contrast in moral views at Utah State. On Thursday. May 7. two of Logan's finest visited the class of Joe UUells ond asked to view the filmstrip which they said was subject to five complaints. UUells declined to show the filmstrip, explaining that they could not judge the moteriol out of context of the classroom content.
