I will drink LiU to the Ires. All time I have enjoyed Greatly, hare suffered greatly, both with those That loved me, and alone. ... I am become a name. 3 4 For always roaming with a hungry heart Much have I seen and known, - cities of men And manners, climates, councils, governments, I am a part of all that I have met; Yet all experience is an arch rvhere-through Gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades Forever and forever when I move. 5 Hoti' (hill it ts to jxiuse, to make an end. To rust unburnished, not to shine in use! As though to breathe teere life! Life piled on life Were all to little, and of one to me Little ream ins; but ever hour is sored From that eternal silence, something more, 6 A briuger of neie things; and vile it were For some three suns to store and hoard )U i selj And this grog spirit gear ring in desire To follow knowledge like a sinking star, Begond the utmost hound of human thought. 8 A.s not too late to seek a newer world. Push ofj, and sitting well in order sm ite 1 he sounding furrows; for my purpose holds 10 To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths Of all the western stars, unfit I die! 11 12 There lies the port; the vessel puffs her sail; There gloom the dark, broad seas. My mariners. Souls that have toiled, and wrought, and thought with me, - Thai ever with a frolic welcome took The thunder and the sunshine, and opposed Free hearts, free foreheads, — you and I are old; Old age hath yet his honor and his toil. Death closes all; but something ere the end, Som e ivork of noble note, may yet be do ne, Fat a nbecom ing men that strove with gods. Tfu lights begin to t winkle from the rocks; D tang day wans; the slow moon climbs; the deep Moans round with many voices. Come, my friends. 13 This labor, by slow prudence to wake wild A rugged people, and through soft degrees Subdue them to the useful and the good. Most blameless is he, centered in the sphere Of common dut ies, decent not to fa il In offices of tenderness, and pay Meet adoration to my household gods. When I aw gone. He works his work, I wine. 14 ■ C vt . Tennyson 16 Portrait l y Hobson Glen L. Taggart President of US U. 1968- 18 “Utah State University was horn of human needs, nurtured by faith and dedication, and sustained throughout its history by a solemn conviction that the intellectual life finds its greatest nourishment in a fellowship of minds. Dr. Taggart views Utah State as existing to assist its students to find an understanding of human life so as to lx ready and equipped for the practice of it. Utah State also seeks to help its students find excitement in the intellectual life. It no doubt perfects other phases of the student, broadens skills, extends their acquaintances and hopefully strengthens their moral fiber as each and every student takes, uses and eventually values all the many facets of the university life that may have an effect. Education is open to all who can benefit from it and who have the will to meet its demands. The president promises, “All those with the intellectual capacity and desire to succeed will find the doors open at Utah State University.” 19 Vice-Presidents Claude Burtenshaw Vice-President of Student Affairs Wynne Thome Vice-President of Research H. The Awards memorialize the name of William E. Robins, a former studentbody president at USU who was one of those rare student leaders who had the ability to project bis own vision and make it the vision of the campus. The USU Union was one of the items he dreamed about. In 1954 young Robins and bis wife, Geraldine, took off in a light plane for a trip to Denver, where Bill was scheduled to attend a convention. As the plane came in for a landing at the Denver Airport something went wrong and the plane crashed. Both Bill and his wife were killed. Behind them they left an orphaned year old son, prompting the members of Sigma Nu Fraternity — in which Bill Robins was a member — to found the Bill Robins Memorial Fund to raise money that would provide a scholarship for the boy when In was old enough to enroll in the university. But two years later the tragedy of the Robins family was compounded when the small boy was fatally stricken with leukemia. Since then, the Fund has been used to provide scholarships for worthy students. Six years ago AWS joined Sigma Nu as co-sponsors of this event and now it is the climax of Mother’s Weekend. The process for selecting the award winners is long and scrupulously conducted. Every segment of the campus is called upon to participate. Over eighty organizations are asked to make nominations. An eliminating committee (composed of delegates from the student senate, faculty association, inter-residence council, and independent students association) select the nominees for six of the 12 categories, while special committees determine the finalists for the awards for the scholar, athlete, talent and alumnus of the year. 155 r D.H. The permanency of the institution depends upon its success. Under the direction of Mr. I ). C. Burnell, acting coordinator of the center, a wide variety of classes are organized to fill the needs and desires of those seeking an education. At present classes are held in the school facilities of the Duchesne and Uintah county school districts. Classes are taught hy resident professors and also professors who are flown into the area from Utah State University. Both upper and lower div ision classes are offered at the center. Opportunities are given to many youth who cannot afford to go outside the Basin to school and many parents also have opportunities for higher education and thus better vocations. Students also have social opportunities through dances, activities, and the atmosphere which exists here. With the continued support of the Uintah Basin residents and UBCCH will grow and improve. With the growth of this institution the basin itself will be developed in many facets, and bring out the true potential of the area and its people. The overall aim of the U BCCE, its leaders, and its students is progress through higher education. 291 Yearbook Staff Left to Right Dwayne Holmes Mary Richens Kevin Ashby 292 Front Row: Jim MoOpc$, Don Solmonson. It will be a year to remember... we didn't just write and draw layouts, and talk on the phone, and get mad when people didn't show np for pictures and worry over lost pictures, and wonder what the whole darn thing would finally look like ... we participated in the stream of campus lift from the third floor office. We heard complaints and watched the crowds, and caught their many expressions with our cameras. We took midterms and finals, wrote papers and worried over cinch notices; we surv ived. Each section editor, photographer and staff members deserves a sincere thank-you for doing such a terrific job. because without von this hook would never be. Besides the regular staff members. Dan.
