Student Union Board and Committees To furnish a center for student activities can only begin to explain the function of the Student Union Building. Within the walls of the Student Union Building, facilities range from a stereo room upstairs to a bowling alley adjacent to a downstairs fountain area. Included also are the headquarters of the ASUSU offices and other student offices. Here, under the management and direction of Evan Stevenson, lack Nixon, and Jay Anderson, and their staff members, many of the student and non-student functions are ar- ranged. The eleven Union Building committees facilitate activities such as musical presentations, lectures, teas, dances, talent shows, banquets, recreational programs, displays, and special contests. Because of the vast areas of interest provided in these activities, students are given opportunities to participate in their Held of in- terest and work with other members of the student body. Increased enrollment at USU over the past years has presented a need for additional cultural, social and recreational facilities. Construction for new improvements on the Student Union Build- ing will be under-way in March, 1963 and will be completed in the fall of 1964. The expansion of the Student Union Building will incorporate a larger bookstore, fourteen-lane bowling alley, pastry shop, larger skyroom and fountain which will be both inside and outside, a theatre which will seat 300 to 400 people, a workshop, and elevators to the three floors.

Student Senate concentrates on vital issue concerning student policies. Student Senate Health insurance! Was this the answer to the student health prob- lem? This question and many others frequently confront the stu- dent body and their representatives, the Student Senate. Through a combination of simmering tempers and cool heads, solutions to these problems are made. It is through campus-Wide representa- tion, the senate can easily recognize the student body's reactions toward these questions.
