To The Students Engraved in the stone of an ancient Greek temple were these words, Know Thyselff' Another favorite saying from classical Greece was Knowledge is powerf' For millennia, primitive man lived and moved and had his being in a state of in- tellectual darkness and ignorance. He had little knowledge of himself, or of the world into which he had been born and was des- tined to die at an early age. But with the invention of the alphabet and of writing, knowledge rapidly became cumulativeg per- sonal development and social progress be- came attainable.
