UTAH STATE Out of the Utah pioneer effort, as noble a struggle as human history records, there was generated a quality of citizenship which in times past and in this hour of peril is an honor and a strength to our country. Those from many nations and creeds, who came later, added to this heritage. The ideal we espouse presumes a strong and clean individuality in men, and upon that base a conscious unity of social purpose, the objective being a democratic state which glorifies the individual but in which the individual recognizes the common welfare as the ultimate aim of society. This personal and social aspiration is the fruitage of the teachings of Christ which implanted in man an understanding of the brotherhood which encompasses the world. These teachings inculcated the idea of right and wrong as a profound fact which, to those who so believe, guides their every action and choice. Once give superior people this idea as a motivating force and you have an unconquerable power which forever refuses to accept injustice or to acknowledge defeat in the battle for justice. This is the power which has destroyed evil kingdoms throughout the world and today disturbs human society everywhere. There is for men who know right from wrong no peace until these ancient precepts of our race are accepted by men and governments. You of this College have the right to believe that your Alma Mater is a product of this eternal striving of men to give, to all alike, justice and equal opportunity. God help us to hold high these standards. 24 E. G. PETERSON
