gzze gilzislzed Qqvducf In September, 1944, the great doors of Ursuline High School were opened to us. We stood bewildered and awe-stricken on the threshhold, almost afraid to take the fatal step that would launch us on our new career. As we timidly eyed the upper classmen, We became more and more aware of the insigniiicance of our lowly position. Many a time we suffered the humiliation of wandering into wrong classes at wrong times. However, we managed to out- shine the rest of the school in the Exponent drive. The thrill of becoming sophomores was soon over-shadowed by grief. Father Gallagher's death was a sad shock to each of us. It was not just the loss of a principal, it was the loss of a true and dear friend. That year our football team was undefeated in the City Series. On March 28, 1945, we opened our hearts to our new principal and friend, Father Holdbrook. The next thing we knew, we were juniors, and sponsors of the main dances of the year. In honor of the team, we held a Pigskin Prom in December. The highlight of the year was, of course, the J unior-Senior Prom. Joe Chimento and Jean Lance reigned as king and queen of the ball. During all these activities many found time to be high, consistant scorers on the honor roll. Now We have reached the supreme distinction of being seniors. The school has been a constant hub-bub of activity since September. First of all, we had the Ditch Diggers' Hop. The boys dug ditches for the new P. A. system and the girls supplied a lunch for all, the day's work was rewarded with a hobo dance for the entire student body. Then we participated in the new program, High School Newsreel of the Air, which featured entertainment and bits of news of interest to students. A We had a quiz under the direction of the original Professor Quiz. Our biggest thrill came at our Baccalaureate and graduation. We were a little sad, too, because with them came the realization that we were now men and women of the world and no longer students of Ursuline. The task of the Priests and Sisters of mold- ing us into Catholic men and women is completed. The success of their efforts depends entirely upon us. As we take our places in the world, we will look back with fond remembrance to our days at Ursuline and thank them for the inspiration and guidance they have shown us. Page Twenty
