Meg Her name is Marjiori Ann Early, but all her friends call her Meg. She is a tall girl with the short cropped hair of a swimmer, and a rather shy quiet person. Hut behind that reserved personality hides a perfectionist with a competitive spirit and a strong will to win. Meg was a typical high school student involved in choir, tennis, track, and school government at Lebanon High School. In addition to the extra curricular activities in school, she swam at the local YMCA. Her career in the pool lasted thirteen years. When it came time to select a college Meg picked Ursinus for its close proximity to home, its good swimming facilities, and because of her knowledge of the school gained from her sister Amy, an Ursinus graduate. Meg started her college athletic career with swimming. She then picked updivingand attempted to do both. After about a month Meg discovered that diving was just too time consuming, and so she dropped swimming and concentrated on perfecting her diving skills. During her freshman year Meg acquired the skills to com pete in the MAC’S for the first time. Her teammates were supportive. She surprised herself and won the MAC’S. Meg then qualified for Nationals. Being less sure of her diving ability than others Meg did not feel she belonged in this competition. She dove for the experience and ended up in the bottom of the ranks in both the one and three meter competitions. For the next three years she qualified for MAC’s and Nationals bettering her standing. This past year has been a bard year for Meg. After suffering a head injury while diving, she was in a quandry as to whether she wanted to dive again. Of course, she did and once again reached Nationals. It hurts that it is all coming to an end,” Meg says, 1 am just coming to believe in myself. She would like to continue diving by coaching at the high school or college level. -----------------------Of Fire--------------------- The fact that must really be remembered is running with Trappe is all done on a voluntary basis. Not one of these men gets paid for his contributions to either squad. So for those of you who know any, or all of these gentlemen, you realize what dedicated people they are to take the initiative to qualify themselves to run on a squad, as well as. to volunteer their services so willingly to the community. Arbor Day Tuesday May 7. 1985 was the first annual Ursinus Arbor Day and was declared a day of campus beautification. As a way of carrying on the Ursinus tree tradition, started by Dean Kline, the senior class, the fraternities and sororities presented Ursinus with a gift of several trees. The senior class gifted the school with two beech trees to replace the two decayed trees taken down this spring. The fraternities and sororities presented Japanese Cherry trees to the school. The thoughtful gift” was accepted by President Richter on behalf of the Ursinus college family. Joan Marie Gagliardi, president of the junior class, was also happy to accept the gift and the challenge to carry on this tradition made by the class of 1985. The class of 1986 hopes to add their element of beautification to the campus and to pass on this tradition to the class of 1987. Editor’s Note: I and my staff would like to apologize for any
