The Senior Class of Ursinus is traditionally allowed to indulge in a bit of sentimentality by recalling, in its Class History, fond memories of years past. The Class of ’61 writes its history not as a tender reverie meant to tug at heart strings, but as a gentle reminder lest we forget the happy times. And they were happy times, beginning with the SI2 meetings and the step shows of Customs. Under dedicated sophomore leadership, we pulled our class together and elected Don Famous president. For our first dance we immersed the T-G Gym and created a kingdom “Beneath the Sea. Keeping to the water theme but this time on the deck of the upper dining hall, we were “Bermuda Bound on our second class dance. In this year, too, we fell into the comfortable bull-sscssion habit which forced us to endure uncomfortable all-nighters for that bain of every freshman’s life Tlistory 1,2. As Sophomores we overheard a quiet faculty suggestion that the Customs program be modified, so we responded obediently if not enthusiastically to the call. With Frank Cook as our president we sponsored a Thanksgiving dance appropriately named “The Fowl Ball,” and in the spring we provided heavy atmosphere for a beatnick dance at the “cafe Bohcme.” The Christmas Banquet this year was the setting for a “Forest Fantasy and the women of the Class of '61 took the table decoration prize for their efforts. 36 In our Junior year, we elected Jim Michael president and began the year with a turn-about called the Tender Trap,” decorated with not so tender shot guns and turn-about called the Tender Trap,” decorated with not so tender shot guns and arrows. For our Junior Prom we were lucky enough to rent Sunnybrook just following a flower show. The model patio and the flowers which were left behind added to our own March Gras displays and provided a beautiful setting for our queen Joan Mes aros. The spring of the year foretold the final act of our college days, as Su Pontius and Bruce Sherman were already busy with Ruby plans. Jim lead the class through another year with the help of vice-president I.airy Habgood, secretary Joan Mes aros. and treasurer Fred Bauman. Our Senior Ball, Land of the Midnight Sun,” transformed Sunnybrook into a palace of ice and snow for our Lord and Lady - Jim Sandcrcock and Joan Mes aros. On Monday morning, June 5, 1961, we gather for the last time as undergraduates. The Class of ’61 is not sad thst it is over, but we are glad that it has been. Our happy moments are more than mere memories to hr brought out at every reunion, for they have never been put away. Perhaps John Masefield was not far from wrong when he wrote: It is best to trust the happy moments . . . The days that make us happy make us wise. PERMANENT CLASS OFFICERS Jim Michael, President; Judy Drcnguba, Reunion Chairman; Joni Mcszaros, Seeretary-Treasurer; Dave Emery, Loyally Fund Chairman. 37 More class preparations led by Jim at our class meeting. Jim taps the root beer keg at the Senior picnic. Larry and Dot help whiten the igloo for our Prom.
