THE TIGER'S TALE Once upon a time to the kingdom of Urich there came a powerful tigress, who was the un- disputed Queen of the Jungle. Now Mrs. Newman, the tigress, as she was guardian over thirteen little tiger cubs iBetty Hudson, Ilene Payne, Linda Noland, Nolan Bohrn, Ruth Long, Eleanor Beasley, Wanda Winkler, Janice Ewing, Dorcy Cox, Duane Shulse, Wayne Grimes, Wayne Mouse, and Dixie Emickl decided they should be taught many things. The older cubs of the school, though, would not let these green cubs come in untried. For initiation they made them each dress as a member of the opposite sex. It was fun. School continued until it was decided that Nall work and no play makes tiger cubs poor huntsmen.N They then gave a barn dance for the older tiger cubs, plus a skating party for them- selves. A new little tiger cub named Shirley Davis entered the kingdom. From their number they chose Linda to be their leader and Dixie, assistant leader, while Ilene kept care of their barter equipment and Janice wrote their tale. Those to go to the tiger council were Wayne M. and Betty. So ended the first year. , A second year of learning began under a new head, a cunning tigress, Mrs. Long, from the kingdom of Pleasant Hill. They lost one cub llleneb and gained one, Avis Hilte from Montrose, Province. During this year they had as enter- tainment a hay ride, a movie Knlnterrupted Melodynb, and two skating parties. For this-the little tigers gave great thanks. This year three of the kingdom's girls, Linda, Dixie, and Betty, received basketball letters for their bravery in sports. Six of the cubs were asked to serve at the great feast for the Senior cubs. Linda was chosen by the cubs to be candidate for Queen of all Tigers. This second year they saw one of their members, Wayne Mouse, become head cubg with Linda sub-head, Dixie, keeper of great wealthg and Avis was to tell the tale. Those to represent them on tiger's council were Wayne M. and Betty. They were visited briefly by James King. So ended the second year. Their third year, they had a new ruler, Maharani Estill. The fierce tiger, Wayne Mouse, truly declared himself King of the Urich Jungle. Linda was first tigress, Wayne G. was to keep track of their different hunts, and Avis was to keep their fur and game. Janice told their tale to the world through Tiger's paper the WMirror.' The representatives of Tiger's council were Duane and Wanda. They started off with a bang by making 5130.00 by selling magazines. Then the happy day came when a white man from across the way brought some wares to be bartered. Each cub got a ring with a big 1958 engraved on it. You see they had hopes for their future. Finally they had three one act plays which yielded around 2l20.00. They then bought a present for the school--a divan and a chair. One little tigerette, Shirley, left but they gained Franklyn Walton and Larry Visentin in her place. Two of the masculine cubs received letters in the game of basketball. They were the two Waynes. Avis Hilte, this year, reigned as Queen of all Basketball Tigers. At the end of their third period of training these cubs gave a huge feast at the Colonial Dinner House for the Senior cubs. 'Starlight' was the theme chosen, and all tigers and cubs frisked and feasted happily beneath the twinkling stars. So ended the third year. Maharajah Teague, and the Good Lady of the Land, Mrs. Lacey, were their supervisors for the fourth year. Two cubs of their den had wandered away during the summer vacationg one, Ruth, to start a den of her own, and Wanda to join another pack. Dixie Johnson came in as a reenforcement but left them for her former den at mid-term. In this fourth and last year, King Mouse ruled supreme, but he had much assistance from Linda, Betty, Avis, and Eleanor. To the Tiger's council roared Wayne Grimes and Eleanor Beasley. As senior cubs they had the pleasure of initiating the green freshman cubs. They made the girl cubs dress as flappers, and the boy cubs were ordered to garb themselves in gunny sacks. 11+
