The building committee was J. E. Stewart and W. H. Erwin. The harmony between the school board and the building committee is shown in the fact that this building was begun and completed in the same year. As soon as school closed that spring, the old building was torn down. Nothing was wasted! About S5000 worth of material was realized from the salvage. Mary Fostabend was the superintendent at this time, and did much to encourage the patrons in building the new school. Classes were held at the park when school began in September. When the weather became too cool for out-door classes, they moved to the churches and lodge halls until about the first of December when the building was ready for use. J. R. Cope was superintendent of the school at that time. The first P.T.A. was organized at the park in 1921 and continued a flourishing organization for several years. It was discontinued later, however, and was not reorganized until in the fall of l9L7. Since then, it has been very active in promoting any improvements needed by the school. Our public address system, installed in the spring of l957, was a gift of our P.T.A. As the years passed, more subjects were offered and more teachers employed. 1926 graduating class, but attire for the U.H.S. Since the present spacious gymnasium has been in use, physical education and basketball have become more important to the school and more popular with both the students and the community than ever before. In l9l6 a county library was established and with it came the bookmobile service which so adequately supplements the reading material provided by the school. The first Urich High School Annual, named the WTigeretteH was edited just ten years ago, in l9L8. Since then, each senior class has edited a yearbook. By the late l94O's, the Urich School was again having Ngrowing pains.n In November, 1949, seven school districts surrounding Urichg Lucas, Hickory Grove, Maple Grove, Hartwell, Enterprise, and Cornett voted to consolidate with Urich and form the Urich R-6 District.
