As our coach, we appreciate the time, effort, and patience he gave to all on his teams. Under his guidance, the girls' basketball team won their 1958 sectional tournamentg and later that spring the boys'baseba1l team brought home the title from the sectionals. Aside from his regular duties as a coach, Mr. Dewitt organized an effective intramural program which has promoted school spirit and a more active participation by everyone in sports. As our teacher, Mr. Dewitt struggled with us through our General Business, world History, Law, and world Geography classes. He was always willing to listen to our everyday problems as well as discuss those of the world. As our friend, we felt free to come to him for advice and guidance. we have enjoyed many good times with Mr. Dewitt and appreciate all that he has done for us in the years at Urbandale. The 1etterrnen's club was organized this year to promote better relations between the student body and the athletes -- to promote a more active athletic program, which turned out to be quite successful in its plans and activities. In the spring of 1958 a constitution was drawn up and officers were elected. The officers are: Danny Boals, President, Gary Willett, Vice-President: Dick Foote, Secretary, and Ronnie Johnson, Treasurer. Some of the projects of the U Clubhave been cleaning up the football field and concessions stand, buying warmups for the track teams, and purchasing target socks for the boys basketball team. I Hom 1 I 1 . 7x,D ' . 6 J: MIV4-, 23213 'Tl PEP CLUB The pep club, The Spirit Rousers, was or- ganized by the cheerleaders for the purpose of creat- ing more spirit in the student body. Officers for the year were: President, Donna Horakg Vice - President, Diane Wilsong Secretary- Treasurer, Ann Valeriusp and Correspondence Secre- tary, Susan Greene. The money-raising project for the year was a skating party. Half of the money was turned over to the cheerleaders. A skit was presented to the student body at the pep meeting for the last Ankeny basketball game. In response to our correspondence secretary's request concerning information covering pep club activities, we received many letters from Des Moines High Schools. We hope that in the future we may have an even more successful pep club program.
