styycocfe l T s , GMNIAT FOREWGRD Four years ago we entered college . . . probably through Bernadotte - Gate . . . and began what would perhaps be the four most important years of our lives. ln these four short years gates have become important to us. Meet you at Old Main Gate has become a standard expression at Upsala, These gates symbolize the entry into the realm of knowledge. Through these standards we pass to classes, to Spring Week Shows, to athletic contests . . . the hundreds of events that fill college life and make up the knowledge gained from it. Recent additions to our campus are Pioneer and Pilgrim Gates which flank Christ Chapel between Nelsenius Hall and Bremer Hall. These gates denote our entrance to the spiritual side of campus life. Upsala's gates and the life they symbolize, after four years, add up to what college is in itself . . . the gateway to the future . . . and as we leave Upsala, we can look forward through Ber- nadotte Gate to what the world holds for us.
