The Chaplain's Message A professor recently commented about one ot Ameri- ca's ranking theologians as follows: He doesn't want the people to hear his own words, he wants them to hear the angels sing. There is a sense in which those words ought to characterize every preacher and every Christian layman. Surely beyond all human words there is another Word more worthy of attention! Of the writing of books there is no end. That is both our glory and our problem. The printed and spoken word are everywhere. Who can read everything? Who can listen to it all? There is too much clamor for attention. There is too much talking, too much noise. Even those who talk to God are seldom willing to listen or to heed His Word. Perhaps the angel song is lost in the discordant jangle of our blatant dissonance. Perhaps our noises are screens to shut out the Word that brings the possibility of health, salvation and peace. Perhaps our preoccupations prevent our recognition of the Stranger who is the very Word of God. Nothing is more pathetic than man's interest in words to the exclusion of the Word. No one of us can sing the angel song. No one can guarantee the hearing ofthe heaven- ly Word. Yet there is the Psalmist's simple admonition, Be still and know that l am God. Be still . . . May such a Peace go with you! L. Christian students in search of an opportunity for worship, study and recreation with similar minded stu- dents -this is the S.C.A. Through speakers and panel discussions, Bible study groups and worship services, re- treats, conferences and caravans, these students become acquainted with each other and with students and church people from other colleges and congregations. Typical of the programs this past year are a discussion of Faith, Sex and Love, Dean Fiellman's presentation of the Christian lmplication of the 564,000 Question, and the surrealistic drama, The Sign of Jonah. S.C.A. also sponsors Sunday evening Vesper Services where the ladies of the First Lutheran Church provide supper ata nominal rate. During the Lenten Season, S.C.A. in conjunction with the First Lutheran Church presented Dr. Edmund Stiemle who spoke on the topic The Lord's Song in a Strange Land. 74
