BASEBALL The 1961 Upper St. Clair diamond squad took second place in the section with a record of seven wins and five losses. During the first three games of the season Cwhile the team was still intactj the squad knocked off Bellevue, Neville, and Quaker Valley, and looked quite sharp. But by the fourth game fireballer Terry Shields was out and shortstop Paul Welder was injured. For the rest of the season Coach Argiro shifted the lineup around, trying to make a section winning team, but was unable to find a pitcher to take Terry's place. By the end of the season, however, some inexperienced players be- gan to play ball. The batting honors were taken by Frank Vanzin, who knocked the ball at a .407 clip. He was closely hounded by Paul Welder, who hit .400, and catcher Bill Zondorak, who hit .378. Bill Stewart, with .323, and Dave Welder, with .300, also did well. Dick Nolan, the team's MVP, did most of the pitching chores and compiled a 4-2 won-lost record. Zon- dorak also had a hot bat, getting 14 hits and 11 RB1ls.
