Bruschi, H. Amick. FCDOT BALL The football team started off the year with a bang! Compiling the best won-lost record Upper St. Clair has had and winning the Ohio Valley Confer- ence Championship, it showed what hard work and desire could do. Much of the success must be at- tributed to the devoted coaching staff, which put in many long, hard hours. The team was a powerful offensive machine which gained 2275 yards and 135 points. The defensive eleven, fighting eight tough ones, held the opposition to 54 points. Bob Bruschi led three outstanding backs with 694 yards, compiled in runs of 90, 80, 73 and 52 yards, and an 80 yard pass run, and 55 points. Fullback Frank Vanzin, pounded through the line for 627 yards and 47 points. Indestructablc half- back Terry Shields, carrying 130 times and gaining 4.5 yards per carry, was the workhorse in the back- iield. Because of Bill Stewart's knee injury during the second game, Dick Boal and Fuzz Stewart filled in as quarterbacks for the remainder of the season. Speaking of the line, Coach Merritt stated: An inexperienced line, through determination, devel- oped into a very respectable seven man front.
