i i I . Sfkifkikuilfikiir EX LIBRIS is as ff ix? ik aff 'Y Y ix. L WALUM OLUM VVALUM OLUM, the name of the book', of the Lenape Indians, is the first recorded his- tory of this tribe. About 1000 A. D. a famous tribe of Indians known as the Lenni Lenape, interpreted as the original people , invaded eastern Pennsylvania and settled in our region. The traditional history of this tribe was inscribed on birch bark plates with carved ligures. This was the only primitive eastern American Indian record that can be properly called a book. Since the Lenni Lenape were prominent in our area and called their history the Walum Olum , we should like to record the history of our class in our Walum Olum . Such an education teaches him to reason, to recognize the truth, to love beauty, to accept good and to reject evil and will, in effect, produce an intellect that can spin gossamersn as well as forge anchors. llay the education you have received at Upper Perkiomen High School give you sufficient sturdiness of character and independence of mind to lead you on to happiness and success. Twenty-two EVAN CHRISTMAN President of Senior Class CLASS HISTORY This was the first Freshman class in 'the new jointure, and our class membership had grown. We learned to co-operate with our new classmates in planning class activities. Proudly we displayed our emblems which had been cleverly designed. Added impetus was given to class undertakings by energetic students wishing to show their pride in our class. Receiving our hats, we realized that our high school days were enjoyable. We wore these hats on Sophomore Day. Our Sophomore Dance, held on the same day, was lauded as a success by all who attended. Then came our Junior Year. Did you notice how all the juniors placed added attention upon their hands at the beginning of the year? They wanted to display the new class rings they had received. Deco- rations for our Junior Prom, 'Stairway to the Stars, were praised throughout the week following the dance. Our play, entitled Adam's Evening, was said to be the very best Junior Play in years. This year the focus was on Commencement! Frantic efTorts were energetically expended as we tried to cram everything that we were learning into some niche of our minds. The hams got a last minute opportunity to display their acting talent in our play, Meet Me in St. Louis. Our Senior Prom, Aloha, found us dancing dreamily amid the flowers and palm trees of a Hawaiian garden. Near the end of the year, as pressures increased, we realized that here had been four years-perhaps the four most valuable years of our lives. Next on the schedule was a hattle with Upper Xloreland on the opponents' grounds. A beam of victory shone through when Ken Hitting threw a touchdown pass to Hill Niemy in the second quar- ter of play, hut lipper Moreland doused the light CHARLES BREISCII in the third period, holding the lndians to a 0-0 deadlock. Held scoreless in the first three quarters lay our hosts, Quakertown, the lndians retaliated in the fourth when little Ken Hitting scooped in a pass from Harry Fetterman and ate up the remaining yardage for a TIF. Another pass hy Fetterman, this time to Rich Ciraher, accounted for the extra point. The hosts, however. had scored once each quarter, and with that advantage handed the 'lirihe its third sethack of the season. .26-7. The lndians now had a chance to pit their strength against unheaten Pennridge under the op- ponents' lights, hut the league leaders hammered away the first three quarters, keeping a lnig zero on the scorehoard under U.l'. lt was Hill Nieiny who tallied in the final quarter. lfngulfing a screen pass from Harry lfetterman, Niemy pounded the grid 45 yards to the payoff zone, hut the Rams' superior scoring paid off in a 31-6 defeat for lipper Perk. Un a sunny hut cold 'lihanksgiving morning the lndians from Souderton met our own 'lirihe on the home reservation. XVith a good display of offensive and defensive skill despite wind and hiting cold, hoth teams went scoreless for three quarters. ln the last period, however, Souderton hroke through with a Ill and painfully edged out l pper perk 6-0 in the final game of the season.
