The following officers were selected: president, Jean Steller, vice-presi- dent, Douglas Wolfg secretary, Dorothy Jean Benner, treasurer, Richard Yoder. ln November we made numerous plans for social activities but accomplished little. One day the next spring, our heads crammed with information, we departed from Wheatland, home of James Buchanan. On June 3rd a party and a doggie roast was held on Sandra Stau1Ter's lawn. On September 13th, 1954, we met in room three. We looked forward eagerly to the three challenging years of high school. We elected Douglas Wolf as president, David Poli as vice-presi- dent, Mary Ann Harsh as secretary. and Richard Yoder as treasurer. ln October we, sophomores, assembled in David Poff's garage for a rip-roaring Halloween Party. This year the sophomore girls displayed their athletic ability by capturing the coveted volley- ball plaque. On December 8th we shocked the music world with our presentation of Phases of Ameri- can Musicf' fEditor's notel Mr. Zink, our advisor, headed for the boiler room. ln February we appeared one morning wearing our new charcoal gray and white jackets. On September 23, 1955, having been joined by several West Earl students, we again gathered in room three. We chose David Poff, president, Bernice Martin, vice-president, Ruth Daub, sec- retaryg and Robert Furlow, treasurer. On October 21st the ring salesmen displayed their merchandise. We chose the Starfire pattern which seemed to appeal to the majority. On October 25th Mary Ann Harsh's neighbors were startled to see some boys in fantastic costumes entering her basement. .After some hilarious games, we ransacked the neighborhood in a scavanger hunt. On March 24th and 25th the audiences sat spellbound, as we presented the mystery-comedy. Spooks Alive . After our Saturday night performance, we dined and danced at Zinn's diner. On the evening of May 12th, having spent the entire day in preparation, we danced about a sparkling fountain in a Moonlight Garden . On September 7th, 1956, as dignified seniors we assembled in room 4 with Barry Weather- holtz as president, Jean Steller as vice-president, Mary Ann Hunsecker as secretary, and Robert Furlow as treasurer. We industriously made plans to sell hot dogs, candy, and chips, to enlarge our bank account. On October 25th a large group of happy-go-lucky seniors, if you could recognize them, gath- ered in a barn at Blue Ball for an enjoyable Halloween Party. Mr. Thompson and Mr. Fitzgib- bons joined our merry-making. On November 9th and 10th the f'Beanes came for breakfast. This hilarious comedy, with its poached egg and ice cube, was very successful. At 5:30 a.m. on November 15th, thirty-six seniors boarded a Washington bound bus. Sev- eral hours later, now wide awake, we toured our capital city. After spending a sleepless night at the Lafayette Hotel, we set out for a tour of Mt. Vernon and Arlington Cemetery. In the after- noon, midst a down-pour of rain. we dashed from one museum to another. On Friday evening. tired but happy, we arrived at home. On April 18 on our second class trip, we visited New York City. On May 11th we danced in an Aqua Paradise . Of course, none of us missed a step as the dreamy music gave us the beat. During our class day program on May 15th we read our will to our heirs, the astonished underclassmen. We heard the Reverend William Carroll deliver an inspiring baccalaureate sermon in the high school auditorium on May 19th. On May 24th we received our diplomas and listened to our commencement speaker, Mr. Eugene P. Bertin, Assistant Executive Secretary of the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Then leaving the ranks of Upper Leacock students we became members of the alumni of Upper Leacock. Thirty-eight QQI. : K X N lx- .,,, . Q..: i.: ,.,., I Q ff f ' K hx TQ, .,, ,. We'll soon be straying very far away. Those happy days here, The memories made dear Will linger with us ever from this day. We'll miss those good times At U. L. H. S. The fun we had through all the many years. The joy and laughter We shared together Will later on bring to our eyes fond tears. The games and dances, The old romances, We'll not forget though we be far apart. The plays we staged here, And concerts each year, Will always cling so closely to each heart. Our books and learning Will be returning, For we will use it in our later years. Although we're leaving, We'll not be grieving. A part of us will always linger here. At last we are to say goodbye To all our friends so dearg May God direct our separate ways As we depart from here. We'll never falter in our aims Regardless of the strife. We'll always struggle bravely on To reach our goals in life. As years and years go passing by, We'll still be joined in heart, And memories of our school so dear From us shall ne'er depart. C.M.
