Although our class was organized, we engaged in very few activities. Autumn of 1947 found us as sophomores. However to our regret our class had dwindled greatly. We took several biology field trips, and in the Spring we visited Valley Forge. Before we were aware of it, the school year had ended and half of our senior high career was gone. After our summer vacation, twenty of us returned to school in September. We welcomed Robert Albright, Nancy Hoover, Virginia Horst, Robert Stitzel, and Sara Sweigart to our class. Under the super- vision of Mr. Eshleman we organized our class. We selected our class rings and received them in time for Christmas. Soon after our Christmas vacation, we were busily rehearsing our junior play, Desperate Am- brose, under the direction of Mrs. Lilley, we presented our play in March. Later we went to Gettysburg and toured the battleground. Near the close of the term, we entertained the senior class at a party. In September 194-9 we assembled in Miss Kendigls room and organized our class for our last year in high school. ln November we presented our senior play, The Awkward Pause, directed by Mrs. Lilley. In the spring we were entertained by the junior class. We also went on a trip to Washington, D. C. Baccalaureate Services were held on May 21, and Commencement exercises May 29, 1950. As we left Upper Leacock, we carried with us fond memories that will not be' forgotten. i' C L A S S P O E M COMMENCEMENT We're about to enter the cruel world To make or break our name, But with our royal pennant unfurled We're sure of winning fame. Typical citizens on the brink Of stamping out all wrong, Weill not forget to stop and think To make our conquest strong. So we sincerely wish to assure You who have helped us here That we shall use those lessons so pure To meet tasks without fear. -Virginia Horst F131 lf14l .1 WWW HI llli ,WA , i151 HB1 ur ig 15 'RSE SXA ,,,,,Mgv-..n I:17 S' ,WMA .. .. , 5 522 CLASS PROPHECY It is an evening in January in the year 1963. The Inaugural Ball of Mr. James G. Greiner, the newly elected Governor of Pennsylvania, has just begun. The Governor and his party are taking their places of honor. Standing near the Governor are the Lieutenant Governor, Mr. Robert Stitzel, and Mr. Greineris campaign manager, Mr. Fred Kurtz. Also in the Governor's party are Miss Virginia Horst, the Super- intendent of Public Instruction, and Mr. John Myer, the head of the Department of Highways. Miss Kathryn Buckwalter and Miss Shirley Hess, the Governor's two capable secretaries, are nearby, as are Miss Dolores Yunginger and Miss Sara Sweigart, the secretaries of the Lieu- tenant Governor. Miss Esta Lois Leaman, the Governor's private nurse, is also present. Meanwhile some of the guests are arriving. One of the first to arrive is Miss Nancy Hoover, the artist who has just been widely acclaimed both in the United States and abroad. Soon Mr. Robert Albright, Mr. Kenneth Horst, Mr. Robert Hartranft, and Mr. Leslie Broomall enter together. These four have been working for the United States Government in developing a space ship which could be used in interplanetary travel. Just then the orchestra, conducted by Mr. Henry Loewen, begins to play. The first number includes a solo by the famous instrument- alist, Miss Mary Ann Hillegass. Everyone comments on Miss Hille- gass's gown, which was designed by Miss Marian Groff, the famous fashion designer, who is also present at the ball. On looking over the company which is assembled here, it seems that the Class of 1950 of Upper Leacock High School is well represented. A, I:18l - . We do hereby, and in the presence of these witnesses, make, publish, and declare the following to be our last will and testament. First, we bequeath to the junior boys the senior boys' manly features, and to the junior girls' the senior girls' pleasing personalities. Secondly, we bequeath to the seventh grade our ability to be quiet in study hall. The individual members of the class herein named bequeath the fol- lowing: ITEM: To anyone who is afraid to stand un for what is right and wrong, Bob Albright gives his ability at arguing. To Peg Burkholder, Kenny Horst willingly surrenders his slide rule. To Tommy Dorsey, Henry Loewen wills his trombone technique. Doll Yunginger's shorthand marks go to any junior who can steal and get away with them. To any junior using the hit and cuss method, Shirley Hess gives her typewriter. To Marlene Spence, Nancy Hoover gives her valuable cat fur coat. To any girl who is planning to settle down, Kathryn Buckwalter readily forfeits her ability to keep house. Bob Hartranft's good marks to Donald Bushong, who seems to have the initiative to study? ? ? ? To anyone who can fill it, Fred Kurtz leaves his basketball suit. Sara Sweigart willinglg bequeaths her thrilling Q???J Saturday evenings to Betty Ann Stau er. Mary Ann Hillegass gives her seat in band to anyone who thinks that they can screech on the clarinet. To the jet planes, John Myer gives the speed at which he drives the 88. Marian Groff gives her wobbly seat in French class to Nancy Stauffer, who seemingly loves the French room, fespecially when the seniors have class.l To Scrump 'Greiner, Virginia Horst deems it necessary to surrender her exquisite Palmer Method. To anyone wishing no work and all night-life, Bob Stitzel leaves his imprints on the path to Walnut Street. Esta Lois Leaman gives her thirteen study periods a week to Bob Barnes, who seems to have a hard time getting three. Les Broomall gives his Latin seat to his sister Puss . Jim Greiner gives his position as comedian of the senior class, to anyone capable of holding such an admirable position. All real estate, personal property, trash, or junk remaining after our departure from this institution shall be disposed of in such manner as is deemed advisable. In the presence of these witnesses, we have hereunto set our seal and signature to this our last will and testament on this twenty-ninth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and fifty.
