Bottom Row: Laurie Davis, Alice Tomkins, Kathy Meyer, Diane Tomkins. Varsity It has been a long time coming but we finally got there. Upper-Lakes Varsity Volleyball team shared championship honors this season. We have no super stars. We won because of the determination and comra- dery of this years super group. Everyone did everything,' is the phrase that best describes why we were successful. The support these players gave to one another was fantastic. They derived satisfaction from seeing one of their teammates do well and praised them highly. They are '-buddfeswmd revel in each otheris success. Overall, this is a happy, enthusiastic, team willing to work and play hard. This group of girls is not just a volleyball team, they are a group of very special individuals. Yes, they won the co-championship, but, more important they won the respect and admiration of all those who were lucky enough to associate with them. I consider myself fortunate to have worked with these wonderful players. They are humane and caring, qualities which will ensure future success. Yes, I would adopt any one of them, but, more than that, I would be proud to call each of them my friend. I have worked with some of these girls for 3 years and will miss them. The relationships I have developed with each of the members of this team are deep and rewarding. Every member of this team has en- deared themselves to me in their own way. I wish them all the success and happiness they deserve. For those of you who graduate I wish you all good things. For the others I'm looking forward to seeing you again next year. 'aa as I lv' NWN

Danice Hix 1 yr. .LVIXI yr. Varsity Shelly Oliver 1 yr. .LVX3 yrs. Varsity Most Valuable Offense Kim Essex 1 yr. J.Vf Started Mid-September Senior Player Daniceis skills made that quantum jump from .LV to varsity play with seeming ease but devastating cer- tainty. In her Hrst year of varsity play Danice displayed awesome net play. Her left-handed spikes hit the floor with authority. Her blocking often stopped the opposing team dead in their tracks. Though defense oriented Upper Lakes offense took on a new dimension as Meyer set Hix and she, 'put them down! Kathy is a superior setter. Her natu- ral athletic ability coupled with her sports smarts. made her an ex- tremely valuable player. She can an- ticipate other players and moves to become an integral part of each point. Consistent serves, sets, and digs are among her many assets. Her competitive spirit will enable her to succeed in any activity she persues. Shelly is our most consistent server and started our offense early. Coup- led with her serving, Shelly has an amazing ability to track down a ball. She reacts with a burst of speed when she sees a ball go wild-making her a super saver. Bringing the ball back into play sets up the next point and turns defense in to offense. Shel- ly was definitely a contributing fac- tor in our winning season. Injured several times throughout the season, Shelly never stopped playing to the best of her ability. Her spirit is indi- cative of this team. Alice is an all around player, mean- ing she plays all the positions well. Amazingly, at 5' IM Alice managed to block and spike well. Her consis- tent back row play with good pass- ing set up much of our offense. When in front row, Alice acted as a secondary setter and spiked balls coming low over the net. She is, in- deed, an all around player, capable and comfortable in all areas of vol- leyball. Kim has displayed a natural talent. She made an excellent .LV player and was instrumental in their race for and subsequent win of the cham- pionship. As the season progressed so did Kimis skills. She became a consistent player with bumps, spikes and serves to her credit. Tammy was bustling and serving well in the early season. Unfortu- nately, she was injured in our first match against Lower Lake. I t was a difficult void to fill. Though she could not return as a participant she was a valuable and loyal fan. Her enthusiasm is appreciated by all of her teammates. Kathy Meyer 1 yr. .LVX3 yrs. Varsity All-League and Most Valuable Defense Alice Tomkins 1 yr. .LVXZ yrs. Varsity All-League and Best All-Around Player Tammy Hix 1 yr. .LVX3 yrs. Varsity Injured early season
