President -------------- WILLIAM SHAW Vice President - - - - -LAWRENCE MALLOY Secretary - - - - - - NANCY BUSHEY Treasurer -------------- MONA McKAY Student Council Member ------ STEPHEN READ The class decided to choose seven students besides the class officers to attend to the business and activities of the class. They are: Carol Moore, Ronda Carl, Connie Carl, Carline Lawery- son, Bruce Garland, Frank Merril, and David Begin. We sponsored the Harvest Dance and got a good crowd. Proceeds were approximately S60 from tickets and refreshments. A door prize was donated by Carline Laweryson, and the music was furnished by Rodney Kershner and his dance band. They were tops! Freshmen that took part in the floor show were Frances Owens, Ronda Carl, and Jimmy Dionne. With Mr. Matheson's help we put out a paper, 'The Flash, from which we made 32. 10. Plans are being made at the present time for selling refreshments at the Baker Mountain Ski Tow. Our hopes are high for a good profit. In her Junior year Kay left for Nuremberg, Germany. There, she was on the yearbook staff, to ' or Senior Class Secretary, a member of the Glee Club, and was elected the National Hon Society. We were all very happy to welcome Kay back with us in . February of this year. Bart Hill, as everyone knows, has done a wonderful job this year in athletics. He has been individual high scorer all the sea- son, but on top of that, he has done a remarkable job in winning the Regional and State Schoolboy Foul Shooting Championship. By winning this championship, he has brought home the Bud Cornish Memorial Trophy and a gold watch. He accomplished these things by dunking 45 out of 50 tries at Portland Y. M.C.A. Barton is not one to give up too easily or get discouraged. As he came to the shooting line, he took his typical pose, and missed the first shot. This didn't bother him, so he got hold of himself and flipped in the next 19! He missed numbers 20, 25, and 26. The two straight missed didn 't ruffle him either. He regained his touch and shooting rhythm, won 20, missed no. 47, then dunked his final three! Big Bart returns to Portland, March 20. He'll receive from the Gannet Company a warm-up jacket designating his state title foul shooting feat, then take off with a reporter and photographer for Boston Garden and the New England Schoolboy Basketball Tourney that evening and the next two nights. We here at Bingham High are very proud, and want to con- gratulate hirn on his marvelous feat. We believe that the towns- people feel the same way. He has certainly deserved this trophy. We wish him the best of luck in the future. Keith Davis '58 U 1' W, if W 1 N x A . , . - s I 9 f ' W5 f 521' v ' VZ-MW n5 'f 44 nn' I lj .JK 42? Cross-Country started out with a rather small team this year. Having lost members by grad- uation and other causes, we were somewhat handicapped. Those out for Cross-Cormtry were as follows: Stephen Read, Loren Miller, Michael Read, Richard Rollins, James Beane, Bruce Gar- land, and Stanley Frith. The team participated in four meets this year. These were: Solon vs. Bingham, Central vs Bingham: in dual meets Dexter - Monson - Central - Bingham: in a quadrangle meet and a League meet at Bingham, which wrapped up the season. This meet was won by Anson. Those participating were: Central - Athens - Anson - Monson - Solon - Bingham. Bingham did not win any meets this year, but as most members of our team are underclass- men, there is greater prospect for next year. This is also the first year that cross-country has been under League supervision. This should enable future meets to be better organized and should increase interest in this sport. Good luck to next year's team! Paul Corbin '58 This page is sponsored by PREBLE and ROBINSON BEMIS' RESTAURANT ORRIN J. HILL E. W. The girls' basketball team of 1957-1958 finished in third place, winning 9 out of 16 games. Although the team consisted mostly of new players, they proved themselves competent in tense situations. Nancy Belanger was captain of the team and Jo shaw manager. Chosen to represent Bingham at the All-Star game, held at the North An- son Academy, were Janice Quint and Nancy Belanger, Both contributed to the All-Stars' victory. The girls of the basketball team wished to convey thanks and appreciation to Mr. Hall for his time and patience in coaching them this year and to his assistant, Frances Durgin, '57, former top scorer for Bingham during the '54, '55, '56, '57 seasons.
