Upper Dublin Township, established many years before Montgomery County was carved from Philadelphia in 1784, is one of the most re- nowned Townships ofthe Greater Philadelphia area. lt was settled by Welsh farmers after 1683. Ten years later, thorough- fares, linking Upper Dublin Township with Philadelphia, appeared. Lime- kiln road was first to open in 1693, Welsh road was used in 1702, and, Bethlehem pike was completed in 1704. Originally agricultural, its fields and meadows were fertile and well tilled. Soon, the Reading Railroad mapped its route through the township. With the advent of this railroad transportation, manufacturing began to thrive and predominate. Today, strategically located Upper Dublin Township has noted industries as National Aeronautical Corporation, Columbia Steel Equipment Com- pany, Selas Corporation of America, Keasby 81 Mattison Company, and Minneapolis-Honeywell Company.
