Ten years later, thorough- fares, linking Upper Dublin Township with Philadelphia, appeared. Lime- kiln road was first to open in 1693, Welsh road was used in 1702, and, Bethlehem pike was completed in 1704. Originally agricultural, its fields and meadows were fertile and well tilled. Soon, the Reading Railroad mapped its route through the township. With the advent of this railroad transportation, manufacturing began to thrive and predominate. Today, strategically located Upper Dublin Township has noted industries as National Aeronautical Corporation, Columbia Steel Equipment Com- pany, Selas Corporation of America, Keasby 81 Mattison Company, and Minneapolis-Honeywell Company. The School Directors ot Upper Dublin Township decided in 1947 that the township needed a complete secondary school. Ground forthe Iunior high school was broken in December 1948, and by September 1949, two hundred and forty-nine students were enrolled in grades seven, eight, and nine. The faculty was composed of eleven teachers, each using one room. ln September 1953, the high school program began to materialize with the addition of tenth grade. The building had been expanded to include nine additional classrooms, kitchen and cafeteria, office and gymnasium. The building contained thirty-one classrooms by September 1954. Three senior classes have graduated-Class of '55 C71 studentsl, Class of '56 C57 studentsl and Class ot '57 C63 studentsl. v'i Q h J - Q V A-4 fi! How strange and new it seemed to us. But eventually we became accustomed to the long halls the new teachers and our many new classmates. We were soon able to distinguish the Seniors from the underclassmen and we wondered if we would ever reach that seemingly unattainable position. hen before we knew it seventh grade was finished- and there we were in eighth grade ready for another year And what a year it was' We were no longer the youngsters of the school and we felt dulte superior about it When we took our trip to Harrisburg and Hershey we really had a good time and everyone longed to own the chocolate factory :nth grade came almost before we were ready for it u it was one more step toward that coveted goal Finally w were invited to attend our first dances with our older classmates We had our ninth grade play One Mad Night which was really a mad play and loads of fun Some of us had become quite good athletes on the lunlor high teams and were already waiting for next year so that we could rainy trip to New York City and our graduation from lunlor high We had only three years left but still that senior year 5 I o DA 'K' xi . seemed far away ere it was the fall of i955 and we were in the tenth grade This was the year we really became a part of the senior high And we were ready to prove that we had really grown up Our Valentine Dance was really fun and we can still remember the excitement of seeing our tenth grade cheerleaders at their first varsity game Il X I xiii 0 . Then we began Thinking about our Junior Prom. After much deliberation, we decided upon Hanna No Matsuri as the name. Then we started working on the decora- tions for our Japanese theme. No Senior will forget mak- ing those pink cherry blossoms. Suddenly, while we were in the midst of getting ready for the Prom, our rings arrived. We were so thrilled with them that we showed them to everyone. But we still had to get ready for May l8th and the Prom. And some of us were quite busy that day, to say the least, for that was also the day of the College Board examinations. Soon after that came the end of the school year, and we began to realize that we had only one year left. inally, it was T957 and we had reached that long-awaited Senior Year ! Some of us were a little bit awed at being Seniors, but after the first few weeks of school, we settled down to our final and most exciting year at Upper Dublin. And what a year it was to be! The yearbook staff began work on the annual, The Mundockian, early, meeting the first, and remaining, deadlines successfully. The Senior Class Play, Dangerous Dan McGrew, under the capable direction of Mr. Robert B. Wert, came and went, and before we knew it, our Christmas dance, Winter Wonderland, had passed. In February, we ordered our graduation announcements. We knew that we had to make the most of the rest of the year, for we realized how little time we had left at Upper Dublin. 1 lthough at this time we are all anxious to start on our separate ways of life, we will be sorry to leave Upper Dub- lin, for even though it has offered us some sad times, it has also given us some of our best friends, and best times and experiences that we have had or will ever hope to have. e are all indebted to Mrs. Margaret Davis and Mr. Frank Gilronan, our class advisors, who have been instrumental to our wonderful high school career. Also we wish to give our sincere thanks to Dr. W. W. Eshelman, Mr. Norman L. Jones, Mr. William E. Keim, Mr. Paul D. Duelfer, and the faculty for all the help they have given us throughout years at Upper Dublin. our happy OUR CLASS ADVISORS AAA ANA AA 24 Dax! The reasons for this are many. Having the privilege to be the leader of a group with so much drive, ambition, and enthusiasm has indeed been an honor. I have appreciated especially the Teamwork of our class as exemplified by my co-workers and class officers: Ken Comly, Vice President, Pat Read, Secretary, and Myles Anderson, Treasurer. We are indebted to our advisors, Mrs. Davis and Mr. Gilronan, who made it possible for our class to have such a successful year. I know that the knowledge gained in the classroom, the sportsman- ship shown on the athletic fields, and the understanding guidance given by the faculty will be among our most valuable assets in the years to come. Now, at the close of the year, l would like to wish all the members of the Senior Class much happiness in the future. SENIOR HIGH FOOTBALL King Football, who usually is rnost successful on Upper Dublin High's athletic warfront, was ole- throned this season. He saw the Cardinals go with- out a victory in eight games. The only time a loss wasn't added to the record was the I3-I3 tie at Schwenksville. Coach Frank Gilronan and his assistants Andrew Cunningham and John Schwering, however, worked for the future. They used seniors sparingly, and sopho- mores and iuniors heavily. A long loss streak is usually balanced by a long winning streak. Our hopes are that next season King Football V will wear the initial Inter-County League football crown-without a loss. The Record: O Springfield ,,,,,, -g,,f, 2 0 O Neshaminy ,,,,, w-,,,, 3 3 6 W. An ample supply of fight, determination and ski!! enabled the lassies to compile a 5-O-l seasonal record. A strong defense held all opposition to a mere three tallies while a capable offense netted lo goals for the Red and Grey. After completing a week of instruction at hockey camp in the Pocono Mountains, the squad returned home ready to begin their season. Souderton, whom the squad d f t d before was the first to fall under the might of Upper Dublin. had never e ea e , Mercy, Jenkintown, Lower Moreland and Springfield were the next victims. Ambler our arch rival, was the final team to visit the Upper Dublin field. Despite ers, the Cardinalettes held the visitors and when the final whistle the loss of two play blew the score read O-O. Coach Joan Rocchino believes that this was the best squad that Upper Dublin has had thus far. The two victories came over Huntington and Plymouth-Whitemarsh while the lone de- feat was at the hands of Hillcrest. Shady Grove and Glenside Weldon both battled the Junior Cardinalettes to a l-l tie. The Juniors had been working for months to make our dance a success, and now we were finally going to enioy their efforts. The decorations were beautiful and carried out the theme of an old Southern Plantation. Everything was perfect - from the southern mansion to the bubbling brook. Ray Carr was there to entertain us with his music and orchestra. And, we must say, they were wonderful. Each Senior girl got a Prom Key which she will be wearing for years, and every one of us received many wonderful memories which we will have with us all of our lives. And the band played on. QM . 1 X ffl! ' i Before we knew it, the orchestra was playing Good Night, Sweetheart and we were off to the Post Prom Party at Oak Terrace Country Club. i THE FUN HAD JUST BEGUN . . . Some needed a rest! i i The Prom was a big success! The decorations were beautifulg the music was greatg the dance floor was crowded. The dance was over at rnicl- night but the fun had just begun. The Seniors had a whole exciting night of enjoyment ahead of them. Our parents threw a Post Prorn Party for us at the Oak. We're tired but We're not silly? Rockin' and Roilin' , . . In the swing of things . . . Dancing till five! Terrace Country Club. There was little room for dancing but lots of room and time for jokes and songs. At about 2:30 the breakfast of scrambled eggs and rolls or creamed dried beef and toast was served. Then we were entertained by a magician and a toe-tap dancer. What a time we had! lt was a night we will never forget! No chaperons . . . Hmm, good! Everybody sing . I
