We extend our deepest thanks for Mr. Jones' helping hand which is always avail- able whenever it is needed by the school and mem- bers of the student body. Mr. Jones has been at Upper Dublin High since the school was erected in 1950. He has seen it grow from a small iunior high into the beautiful high school it is today. He has always taken a great deal of interest in the growth of school spirit and has been a continuous supporter of our Student Council and other student activities. Again we say thank you to Mr. Jones and proudly dedicate this book to him. T J U 1 . S.- I Our production would not be complete without mention- ing two personalities who have made everything we have accomplished these past years possible. These credits go to our loyal advisors, Mrs. Gehret and Mr. Shearba. As teachers they have been painstaking in our educational development, as advisors they have given us their untiring efforts to make our tasks a success, and as our friends they have shown in- spiring help and encouragement. Their friendly personalities, their constant examples of high ideals for which our school stands, and their faith in us have contributed greatly to our lives at Upper Dublin. We wish them continuing success. THE SENIOR CLASS 2. I salute you, the Class of 1956, at this Commencement upon reaching an important milestone in your life. Seventy-seven little wheels, ready to set the world on fire. Act I . . . Our Junior High Days Scene I We were finally getting to see what a new school looked like from The inside. How proud we were, as we announced to anyone who would listen: l'm in High School! We found ourselves getting lost in The shuffle from one class to another, and twenty minutes later, offering feeble excuses to whatever Teacher we hap- pened to have. They were tolerant, for They too were getting lost! The boys, who formerly knew girls as Things that can't run very fast, were discovernig that They were O. K., after all. This new-found fact came in rather handy, about this Time we had our first dance. This really convinced us that we were an indispens- able part of a high school. Scene II Up another notch! We were no longer The lowly group, but Eighth Graders. Best of all, we knew our way around! It was quite a Thrill to direct The new Seventh Grade. We also had our big trip to Harrisburg, and to Hershey Park. The snow storm that year convinced even the most sophisticated eighth grader that she was not above The lowly art of making a snowball. Scene III Were we disappointed to find that we were not big wheels, but iust The Freshman Class in a newly built high school. It didn'T Take us long to overcome any feelings of inferiority that we may have had, because This was The year we went to New York. It was the first time some of us had ever seen another state. The gym was open for our use, and we got our first glimpse of a basketball. We also ventured to produce a play, called Spooks and Spasms. In spite of broken lamps and sick cast members, we made a sizeable profit, which inflated both our treasury and our ego. This year also brought us to the realization of how much fun growing up can be. Act II . . . Our Senior High Days Scene I September brought us back as members of a Senior High. Our ranks were a little depleted, but we were still full of determination. Mr. Starner's departure no doubt caused many broken hearts among the girls, but the rapid succession of social studies teachers diverted our attention. This was the year we launched our first competitive teams, and they made a very commendable showing. For the first time, we were learning The real meaning of school spirit. It was probably some of this spirit which caused us to catch snow fever the day the water pipes froze. About 35 a.w.o.l. victims received a three-day vacation. Needless to say, it wasn't repeated. In May, the Juniors gave their initial Prom. How pretty the girls looked, in their first evening gowns, and the boys, uncomfortable, but fully aware of how handsome they were in their Tuxedos. Scene II Then we were Juniors! Everything seemed to be improving-our teams were showing a marked rise, and our class rings came in January. The next few weeks found us continually staring at them. Our glamorous new rings gave us an idea- why not have a ring dance? Thus was the birth of a tradition. We worked dili- gently on our first Senior Prom. The theme was Rendezvous de Paris, and it found us collecting all sorts of strange things like waxed wine bottles, checkered tablecloths, poodles, and of all things, an Eiffel Tower! Anyway, everything turned out marveilleux which, as any good frenchman knows, means wonderfull Scene Ill This September found us reporting as Seniors. The changes in the faculty caused us to believe that there were as many new teachers as students. For the first time, we were a combined homeroom-with Mrs. Gehret, Mr. Shearba and Mr. Foust as our advisors. We were beginning to bestow a big brother attitude on the lower classmen, a sure sign that we were seniors! As we smile with benign tolerance on the seventh grade, how many of us recall our own seventh grade days? Our first big job was to choose our leaders, who turned out to be Sam Sadtler as our president, Bev Kallenbach as vice president, Joan Sterner as sec- retary, and Sara Case as treasurer. In November, our girls won the nomination as Tri-County League Hockey Champions, and again we felt that surge of pride. November also saw us crowning Sannie Gifford as our Football Queen, and we like to think that she and her court were the nicest possible. December found us planning a Frosty Frolic which netted us some cold cash for our depleted treasury. January saw us really throwing elbow grease into the construction of our yearbook. These major incidents are outstanding in our minds, but we will never forget the little things like the Valentine Barrage showered upon Mr. Bekmezian, or our mad dashes for lunch, or our equally mad dashes when the 2:42 bell rings. Now many of us were exempt from the little pile of yellow over- due slips that traveled every morning from the library to room 4, the Senior Homeroom, and the unspoken requirement to wear kneesocks. It is little things like these that make a school priceless. Our six years in Upper Dublin were an important part of growing up, and we would like to thank everyone who helped us-Dr. Eshelman, Mr. Jones, and all our teachers. They have been our constant counselors, consolers, and companions as we witnessed the growth of our school. When we venture out into the world, we will try to be a credit to them, and thereby justify their faith in us. We sincerely believe that we are students in a wonderful school, so if anyone is in need of a really good school, may we speak from personal experience, and recommend Upper Dublin? lt's the greatest! Paul, feated season, was presented to the team co- ggagh, captains, Sara Case and Sannie Gifford, at a special assembly in early December. One of the main reasons the girls were so successful, was because of the opportunity they had when they attended the Agnes Irwin Hockey Day Camp, a week before season started. At the camp, the girls learned fundamentals, rules, skms and actual play. This proved to be an asset as the team showed great skill and know-how in the championship game against Lower Moreland. The game was played at Lower Moreland's field, with every girl wanting to play their best and win the championship for their deserving coach, Miss Joan Paul. The score of the winning game was one to nothing. The League competition was composed of three teams, Lower Moreland, Palisades, and Southern Lehigh. Each team was played twice, which made up a six game season. l Another triumph of the Upper Dublin Hockey team, was the game with Springfield at the Upper Dublin field. The score of the game was Springfield two, Upper Dublin three. The coach and girls were really happy about winning this game, because last year Spring- field had scored eight points to Upper Dublin's one. This goes to show how the Car- dinalettes have improved in one season. Kneeling: D. Robins, Captain, P. M. Jones, Coach. Standing: M. Sisak, Mgr., W. Burnett, R. Field, A. Elton, J. Banes, R. Cameron, O. Fad, L. Mogg, M. Magyar, Mgr. Our basketball team has steadily improved under the direction of Mr. Paul M. Jones. Undefeatecl in the first four games, we met Springfield who gave us our first taste of defeat. Since then all other teams were easily beaten, but our bitter rival Jenkintown wiho snapped our winning streaks twice. Ending the season in second place in the Tri-County League, they en- tered the PIAA class B district finals meeting Hat- boro. Mr. Cunningham's J. V. team also had a winning season. Composed mostly of sophomores, they gained much experience that will contribute to future teams. Mr. Cunningham, coach, D. Matthews, G. Miller, J. Johnson, F. Roberts, W. Wolf, H. Barnes, J. The girls have a record of 5 and l, which isn't bad for their second year as a complete high school. They have under their belts in the way of winnings, Palisades, Southern Le- high, and Lower Moreland. One of the outstanding games was the contest with L. Moreland. The girls suffered defeat at the hands of L. Moreland, by los- ing, 42-3l in the first game. Later they re- turned for their second game and the U. D. Cardinalettes, under the fine coaching of Miss Joan Paul, gave L. Moreland a game they will long remember. The score of that thrilling game was U. D. 43, L. M. 33. Lead- ing in the scoring department was S. Case, 23 points, followed by M. Bolenius l3, and S. Koch, 7. The guards also deserve credit for holding down L. Moreland's fast, moving forwards. Opp. U.D.
